Having watched that performance I think the problems run much deeper than a couple of forwards. The midfield is weak and slow, Tarkowski is a scrapper but ponderous in open play, Patterson is good going forward but leaves a glaring gap down the right whenever he pushes on. The forward line is largely redundant because we are always on the back foot. Lampard and the coaching staff don't seem to be instilling any kind of team cohesion or confidence.
A target man makes a big difference to a team like us, we have so little creativity in midfield that our best hope is to go long to a big physical player who can either lay it off or hold it up. It's not pretty, it's not the football I want to see Everton play, but, it is probably our only chance of staying up. The last time we looked like winning a game was Palace at home last month, it's no coincidence that it was one of the few games when DCL was a fit and firing focal point.

Statements like this annoy me, it shows complete lack of understanding of the game we watch, how many times do we see a manager change affect the team for the better?

Wolves, 2 wins from 2 under the new manager. I would love to know how these people can hold Frank in such high esteem where they think no-one else can do better... Is he the best manager in the world? No..... Other managers would 100% do better.

Look when Joe Royle took over from Mike Walker, no one thought he`d be able to keep us up, he did with stats that rival any manager since and won a cup!

Absolute lunacy!!! Take the Frank blinkers off....
Bit of a harsh response, I don't think the post was wide of the mark.

Lampard is part of the problem but the players are the biggest drag. The quality simply isn't there. We have been on a managerial merry-go-round for years and none of them have got a tune out of the squad despite bringing in their own men. I am resigned to relegation now, you can't circle the drain forever.

2 years ago we were second in December.

Yeah, but it didn't last long. We dropped away as usual when we got to the business end of the season and since then we have gone from bad to worse. I always hope we can improve but just can't see it this year.

We still finished on 59 points that season, enough normally to get Europe.

Gone for a while anyway, are the days when people blamed been in Europe for the reason we did bad in the league, even though the last time we were in a Euro comp the bad run in the league happened when we had no Euro games for 3months, it looks like instead of trying for Euro we will always be trying to stay up however long that may last - i did not think we would be by the bottom 3 this season myself after getting away with it last season

If we don't bring in some creativity/striker within the first week or two of January, we'll go down.

I'm concerned about our capability to do that, because, as I shared in June - the blokes in charge of transfers don't have experience in being in charge of transfers;

Is anyone else concerned whether we've got staff with the credentials in the club to manage the transfer market in such a vital summer?

Kevin Thewell was academy manager at Derby, then Wolves wasn't he? He stuck around at Wolves for a while, and become their Director of Football. But was he ever really a Director of Football at Wolves? Didn't Jorges Mendes run the show there?

Frank Lampard - how did he do at derby and Chelsea?

At Derby, he had a bit of a shocker from what I've read;

Derby: "Lampard spent big money, relatively speaking, during his time at Derby and it is telling that so many of his signings left on free transfers at the end of their Pride Park deals". You can read this assessment here, pretty much all the transfers are 'MISS' https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sp...ws/derby-county-transfer-news-lampard-3969688

And Chelsea, it sounds like he was very passive. He says he was never out of the loop on transfers, and mentions Ben Chilwell as the player he wanted;

Chelsea: Asked what would happen if he had tried to veto a transfer, Lampard told Sky Sports' The Overlap : "It never happened in that way.

"But I would probably have had that veto, if I'm honest. In that first year, we were transfer banned, we were having conversations about who to bring in in the summer - we obviously bought a fair few players.

"I was never out of the loop on that, it was never one where I was like, 'They did this behind my back!' I never had that because it was very open.

"The scouting department with Petr [Cech, technical and performance advisor]... Timo was a big one because Liverpool had wanted him, Manchester United I think were in.

"We knew there were three or four other big clubs, so when I had the conversation with Timo I knew I had to be on my game to get him to come."

"In terms of the signings, I was happy. Ben Chilwell was a big one that I wanted, I had to try... as a left-back, I wanted a player of his qualities."

July;

We survived by the skin of our teeth.

Since then we've lost a key player who directly give us 35% of our goals/assists.

We had another big provider for the first half of last season in Digne.

We've brought in James Tarkowski.

It is concerning.

August;

Everton survives relegation by the skin of it's teeth.

Everton then sells their best player - the player who provided most goals and assists.

Everton is then about to sell it's most promising player with a few days of the window left.

Everton is seemingly scrambling around looking at Che Adams and Ben Brereton.

I rate Che Adams to be fair, but if we get relegated this season - there will be plenty of "What did Everton expect?"

I shared my view on here in June about whether the club have the right credentials/experience to manage the transfer market in that it seemed to me Thelwell and Lampard weren't ultimately responsible for transfers at their clubs before us.

I don't think any three of any of McNeil, Gordon, Townsend, Gray, Rondon and Calvert-Lewin for maybe 10-15 games is competitive enough to avoid another relegation fight.

I think the next days of the window will determine whether we're fighting relegation to the wire, or comfortably mid table. The margins are small between them, but we need goals and this team doesn't have creativity, or goals.

Lets just hope Thelwell and Lampard, who are reportedly relying on Kenwright to help, have some magic in them this next week.

1st September;

The core of our team looks loads better with Coady, Tarkowski, and Gana/Onana (and maybe Garner) in front of them.

I've bored everyone with my view about our attack but I'll say it again - I think any three of any of McNeil, Gordon, Townsend, Gray, Rondon, Maupay and we struggle to be competitive enough to stay in this league. We'll be asking players to hit numbers for goals/assists that they've never hit before.

If we don't bring in anyone else to fill the void that Lampard has spoke about then IMO, we'll be in a position were the difference between a relegation scrap to the wire, or mid table comfort comes down to Calvert-Lewin's fitness IMO, and even then - we've lost his biggest providers. We don't create a lot - 19th or 20th for chances last season, and 18th so far this season.

Forget Calvert-Lewin - If we're relying on McNeil, Gordon, Maupay, Iwobi and Gray to keep us up, we won't. In fact, we wouldn't get promoted from the Championship.

Short memories, but this Everton board allowed us to start the season without an actual striker.

Months after staying up by the skin of our teeth, we sell our talisman in Richarlison and start a new season without a striker.

Negligence and we allow this board to tell us theres been progress over the last 12 months?!

it’s all frank’s fault tho mate

The way I see it;

He didnt want to sell Gordon for £40-60m when most fans could see this;

We'd struggle to stay up with our current front three.

We can't rely on Calvert-Lewin to stay fit.

If we can bring in another couple of strikers then great.

If we can't, and selling Gordon allows us to bring in those players we need, IMO, to ensure the club is competitive enough to avoid another relegation scrap, then it's the game.

It's simple then IMO

If we can sign a decent striker and bring some creativity in, great.

If we can't, roll the dice and sell him and bring some in because I think we're completely on our arse if we try and be competitive in this league with our current attackers.

He approved McNeil, Onana, Maupay, Garner, Gana transfers. Any team with Demarai Gray on one wing, Dwight McNeil on the other and a half fit Calvert-Lewin, or Maupay upfront is fighting relegation. Lampard did bring in McNeil and did reject big offers for Gordon so he's not blameless. "Who could have expected Calvert-Lewin to get injured" he says, against his injury record and when Calvert-Lewin wasn't fit to play some pre-season.

He's also doing worse than expected, that Bournemouth team shouldn't be spanking us 7-1 across two games, nor should we be losing at home to Wolves.
