Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Just got home today from a brief sojourn to your neck of the woods. “Wintery” is a bit of an understatement!! First and only al fresco pee I’ll ever take in -30C temperatures… Beautiful place, though.

Can’t believe it was a year already since Karl passed. Great to see this thread still going strong in his honour. Hope Sass is doing well, too, no doubt terrorising another random forum, somewhere.
I’m surprised you could find it at - 30C mate.

Racing is frozen off Blue. Replaced by episodes of The Sweeney and The Saint. At least my betting pot isn't taking a hit. Not been very lucky lately. Mind you, I still have the £50 I opened it with about 6 years ago. ;)

I've not really dwelled on it, but you're quite right, it does for some reason feel a bit harder at this time of year. Probably because Cal loved Christmas. We'd have been out most days visiting the Christmas market in Truro or the plethora of large country houses that decorate at this time of year or hold seasonal fairs selling seasonal fayres. If you get my drift.

But you get to play the cards you're dealt and I accept my life is very different these days. I get by and count myself fortunate that there are many people a lot worse off than me. That's one of the things I learned from Karl. A true inspiration that lad.
Another thing @Barnfred 55 is that the anniversary of deaths of people we knew or respected hits us ,that is part of the grieving

Good morning all on this mild day here in Hyvinkää ,we are expecting +1° today .It is nice to hear @Brett Angell Delight has good memories of a cold pee it is widely said here that at those temperatures it will freeze down the tree or wall you might direct it to . I hope all had a good night and a word for the regulars that are not posting .We are all thinking of you and wish you well. Have a great day all , today I will mostly cleaning the house . It is said Santa doesn't like getting his feet dirty o_O

Morning all, still frosty here this morning but rain forecast for later. Finally got round to putting the decorations up yesterday. The tree won’t win any design awards but It is full of memories held in the assorted ornaments and baubles collected over the past 46 years, including an angel made out of a plastic shuttlecock which our son made in infant school. We’ve been invited round to our daughter’s this afternoon to watch the football. Mr G. is currently at the top of our Friends and Family tipping league, France 2-1 means he will win outright so we’ll be cheering them on. Have a good day, all.?

That’s me done for Christmas. Not settled yet though. Honestly a stressful couple of weeks that I felt I was better equipped for. Lost sleep and angry at myself for the self doubt.

Great today and energised for the work in the New Year.

2 nights ago I woke distressed about work and it took ages to settle.

Im good now.
I feel your pain. Been absolutely fuming all week about work. Just 2 more days of it for me then I'm off for the Xmas break and looking forward to it. Glad that you have processed yours - I'm still working on it lol

Didn't you have to cancel last year Brett? Or am I getting confused with somebody else?.

My mate used to say that when he was drunk his eyes were like piss holes in the snow. So we had something in common on Saturday night. :)

You going to give us a running commentary on your cooking exploits this Christmas eve mate? Kept us all entertained last year.;)

You don't realise what's coming your way H. The rain woke me up about 3.30 this morning and it hasn't stopped since then. Not complaining though. I get £30 off my water bill if the main reservoir down here get's up to 30% full by the end of the year. This should just about do it.

Good morning folks. Not quite so cold here today and we have very mild temperatures forecast for tomorrow. I raised a glass to Karl. Hopefully he's having a word with the Big Man about Everton!
I'm off until Thursday. No reason other than I didn't think I would get Christmas off. Its always a scramble, but I did. So between now and Jan 4 I'm only in for 2 days. Happy days! Going to do the food shop on one of the days and me and Mr F are going to see the new Avatar film in 3D on Tuesday afternoon. Not really his thing but I loved the first one. I've promised him lunch so he's happy. It's also payback for all the times I've sat through Dad's Army reruns! Which could number hundreds if not thousands
Christmas meal out with the work friends tomorrow. I'm off. I'm getting a lift. I can drink! Wooo!
Have a good day all. I reckon Argentina might just edge the World Cup final but my player of the tournament has been Griezmann.

Rain has just started here, had a look at the radar and you’re not wrong, not looking good. Good news about your water bill though.

Nothing wrong with your memory, my friend!!

My eldest came down with a temperature last year so we couldn’t risk it. Poor lad was devastated so we rebooked but didn’t tell them anything so first they knew was a couple of hours before we boarded.

Of course I am, mate. I love the Chrimbo Eve prep. Makes the day so much easier, plus the accompanying soundtrack and advent beers make it feel like I get a 2-day Christmas.
