Quarter Finals

Paredes definitely should have been sent off. The foul and then booting the ball into the Dutch bench was clearly two yellows. I’m sort of happy he didn’t get sent off but he should have been. It was a gritty match though with a card happy ref so probably other situations that could have been a red. But that one was clear for me
As I always understood it you weren't supposed to give two yellows without the player being aware he's already received the first yellow. So unless you think it is a straight red (and it wasn't) that wasn't wrong. But that's just how I always understood it.

Allison doesn’t save a single pen and Virgil Van Donkey chokes when it counts. International teams should know by now never to pick Kopites, they’ll never ever perform for their country the same they do for their cult. One of the reasons Southgate’s England has done well recently is because he’s binned off most of the scumbags.

It felt to me that Argentina got the bulk of the 50/50 decisions. Interesting to know whether the Dutch retreated in extra time or Argentina got their act together. The psychology of football. The Dutch had a tall keeper but not as many technical players as Argentina to take penalties. They needed to go for it in extra time

That’s not how it works. You can be booked twice without knowing the first was coming. It happened relatively recently in the Premier League. It makes sense. If you do a foul that is a yellow but advantage is played and then you do another it’s two yellows. Will try and find the example

I'm not really sure they should have been. The game was not handled well and was very unruly but I just don't think you can point to one team or incident like that.
It was the kind of game where the ref did himself no favors by failing to distribute an early card or three. The yellow on van Dijk surely should have been his second, after he bowled over players during the first melee and dodged a card. Both sides were fortunate to finish with eleven on the pitch.

I get that the ref doesn't want to paint himself into a corner if it's avoidable, but swallowing the whistle for too long just lets it degenerate into the kind of melee the 2010 final was.

I know it happened and I think that is wrong

Nope this happened in the prem this year. Match escapes me but think it might have been an Arsenal player who received 2 bookings for separate incidents in the same passage of play
