The only thing with that is Lampard had Townsend for a bit before the injury and didn't really use him so I'm not expecting him to be anything more than an option off the bench tbh and we really need more than that. We just need to plod through these few games and hope Thelwell has a couple of bodies lined up for January.

Fair point mate, but we also didn't have DCL at the time, Townsend can whip in a cross and they had a good run together earlier in the year last year before the wheels came off, he can take a set piece and is good for the odd screamer from outside the box. Not saying hes the game changer, but his variance is useful and he can be direct.

On crossing, its not a strength of Gray or young Flash, Myko maybe is similar, if they do its usually low into the box, we have height and aggressive ball attackers in this in team we are triggering, JT, Coady, Onana and DCL. We need better delivery in some games and getting lads on the end of things, Especially away like the game against Fulham, a jammy head on the end of a corner and a bit of luck often wins a scrappy game like that.

Dont think we are doing much with our set pieces in terms of goal scoring or creating, haven't checked or anything just anecdotally speaking.

Agree dont think we get enough players going into the box i understand why keeping the shield gana and onana but sometimes we need take risk and pusj one in the box to join iwobi and gray/gordon with dcl

I'm hoping lampard will be working closely with Onana on making the late runs into the box. I imagine we will see it more at home than away games though.

I'm surprised with how poor we've been on set pieces (attacking wise). I thought we'd have nabbed a fair few goals due to height, physical presence, similar to the Southampton goal for Coady for example.

Its one im wrestling with mate. One of the big criticisms of Lampard at Chelsea was he was way to caviler, he would go for a 4-3, if it was 3-3 and loose then 4-3, a lot of the Chelsea lads would have that critique of him, its fine a t Chelsea, but we always need points.

Im actually hugely surprised with how hes gone building this team and how he plays, i expected us to be far open, less consistent and less solid, boom and bust really. Hes gone for consistency and baseline performance, solidity over Champaign football. Maybe that a self awareness piece for him after Chelsea.

Pragmatically i dont think hes wrong, the position we were in last season and the state of the playing squad and the impact on budget, a realistic goal about how to approach the of is to get home wins when you can and pick up a point away when can, if you can do that relatively consistently, you should be ok. Godison is a hug enabler for us.

I was watching some phases on Sat and i agree with you we could have bit braver, in terms of pushing on and not isolating the attacking unit, but look as above their is a degree of big picture, self awareness in our development and pragmatism that we have to accept after last year. Though maybe to be fair we did go two up top at one stage to try and win, maybe we just dont have the creative players at the moment and sometimes that the truth of it. She was always and still is a bit job to turn the oil tanker around, 3 years for any manager was my recommendation on any manager to build anything here, hes not here a calendear year yet.

Agreed mate, Its defo something we could look at mate. But you are looking at your wide forwards and full backs, crossing isnt a strength of Gray, Flash or Myko, young Nathan has a cross on him. Even our delivery from corners isnt great. For a side struggling for goals and the size of our team and aggressive ball attackers in it, its something we should be looking it.

Not sure about that, too busy telling the fans about "Good times" also since when did Bill make managerial decisions under the Moshiri era? When Frank was appointed all the pictures where of him with Farhad not Bill.
Yeah but some are trying to wriggle Farhad out of being responsible for the appointment of Frank's predecessor

Tbf to Farhad he really is just Usmanovs bagman and does what he is told to do. There were a number of reports at the time that said Abramovich had recommended Benitez to Usmanov. That's what I don't like about Moshiri, he has only ever been the 'owner' on paper it's never really been him making decisions imo until things hit the fan recently and he has taken a back seat. Usmanov is well known to be a big football fan much like Abramovich whereas Farhad isn't as far as I am aware.
