….sticky lice. it wasn’t for dogs, kids used to eat this stuff.
For some reason, pretty much unobtainable in all but a few shops by the mid to late 60s
I remember asking the guy in a sweetshop on County Rd up by the church why, he gave me a convoluted explanation which made no sense at the time...and the bones of which elude me now, due to the passage of years.

….just looked it up and it’s the root from the liquorice plant. Can only assume it was good for us. Looks like you might still be able to purchase it on the internet.

Yeah, I can't remember ever buying it from a sweetshop. Always from the Chemist.
