Your worst Everton 11

I wont judge players on a couple of minutes game time (with one exception in this team) and wont put players in who at least did something good at some point (Gareth Farrelly, Tony Thomas in the Ferguson hat trick game etc) so that leaves me with....

GK Paul Gerrard - Was always going to struggle replacing Southall. I remember him most for the McAllister Derby and for almost killing Earl Barrett against Man Utd when coming to punch a ball he had no right in going for.)

RB Paul Holmes - Way out of his depth. A Kendall mkII budget signing and you could tell.
CB Antolin Alcaraz - There is a player in there somewhere. Never when playing for us though. The Kiev game was one of the worst player performances I have ever seen.
CB Slaven Bilic - As discussed above a joke of a player for us. 28 games, 4 red cards and a miraculous recovery from a career ending injury to play in the 98 World Cup. Complete charlatan.
LB David Burrows - He is David Burrows. Anyone who doesnt have him in their team needs their head testing.

RM Peter Degn - This is the exception. Only played one game I think (Oxford in the cup when Mitch Ward captained us...) but he was so laughably bad. He tripped over the ball with his first touch and it all went downhill from there. I was expecially annoyed as I always wanted him to get a game as I had heard good stuff about him beforehand.
CM Stephen Hughes - Massive let down. I'm not even sure if he was that bad he was just totally nondescript. You know how Linderoth was pretty nondescript? Well he was noticebly nondescript. Hughes didnt even manage to do that.
CM Claus Thomsen - Ill always remember him playing a five yard side footed pass under no pressure into the second tier of the main stand. I actually think he did an ever so slightly above awful job at centre back but in midfield he was awful.
LM Simon Davies - See Stephen Hughes. I'm not even sure I have him in the right position here thats how nonexistent he was. I toyed with putting Bilyaletdinov in here but his goals were all boss.

ST John Spencer - Such an odd signing. He was decent at Chelsea but never looked like scoring for us. Only played 7 games or so and I dont even think he touched the ball in most of them.
ST Brett Angell - Lovely bloke, great lower league scorer, awful footballer. Weird think about Angell is he was the one who got away yet we brought him back anyway. Signs on loan under Kendall, manages zero games and then gets bought by Walker anyway. The only player I have seen where our own fans chanted "off off off" at him when he was going to get booked (QPR away, Hinchcliffe last minute goal.)

See you have gone with a few of the names I mentioned!! David Burrows is a great shout - since I have been watching everton he is definitely the worst I remember seeing. Would definitely have Barrett in their somewhere though. I think Kroldrup has to be in there for his performance against Villa and honestly do believe that a defender who reportedly couldnt even head the ball when he rocked up to training should be there ahead of Alcaraz, even though I agree with you that the Kiev game was an absolute car crash!!

Your midfield I agree with almost completely except for Peter Degn, afraid Alexandersson has to get a spot in there for me, especially because I thought he was a player based on his performances against us for Shef Wed.

Upfront I think Brett Angell is a shoe in for anyone of around the same age as me (32) and think Barlow would pip Spencer for me. In goal as previosly mentioned we have had some absolute nightmares and i am struggling now that you have mentioned gerrard but when I think of wasting 3mill+ on Simonson and breaking our transfer record at the time for 'england no 1 richard wrong' I despair.

GK - Paul Gerrard

RB - Paul Holmes
CB - Per Kroldrup
CB - Antolin Alcaraz
LB - Gary Naysmith

RM - John Oster
CM - Claus Thomsen
CM - Segundo Castillo
LM - Magaye Gueye

ST - Brett Angell
ST - Oumar Niasse*

*May, albeit unlikely, make it off this list at some point.

good shout on Castillo, absolute muck but very harsh on Kilbane, he had a very good season when we finished 4th.......there was worse than naysmith too, John O'Kane anyone?

Despite his Kardashianesque thighs, arl Seggy was absolute toilet. Used to see his name on the team sheet and cry!

Kilbane always comes across as a great fella but you know when you just have this irrational dislike of a player? I was gutted when we signed him and he could do no right for me!

Naysmith I thought was total plop, worse than Pistone and played far more than O'Kane who, for me, was just meh.

My worst X1 would have been the 5-0 reverse v RS at goodison but there were good players in that Everton team
Or the 4-0 v them at the pit more recently again that side contained decent individuals

I dunno, Kroldrup was obviously a rubbish signing but I didnt see enough of him to say he was terrible. He only played a game and a bit for us didnt he? And he was a good player elsewhere so I prefer to go with the never given a chance/not suited to the premier league route. That Villa game was awful but it came about around the same time where West Brom and Bolton put 4 past us. I thought he was equally as bad as everyone else in that game.

Alexandersson was my initial choice. He was a major let down.

I dont agree with Barlow just for the reason that he had a few good moments (Ipswich Town in 1993/4, Bolton in Walkers first game for example) and he was what he was, a back up striker who came through the ranks. Even with his limited ability he did more with it than more talented players like say a Micheal Branch.

Barrett will always be a divisive one. Personally I thought he was a cracking defender who also filled in really well at Centre Back when called upon. He was certainly a no frills player but I found him solid enough. I just cant come close to justifying him in a worst ever side when you have players like Paul Holmes, Mark Hottiger and Alec Cleland (Actually a decent player but a waste of space for us) and Tony Thomas to choose from.

So what, he was still shoite !

I think it should be worth mentioning when judging our worst ever players. At least he did something! Eventually.

To be honest I think he was a victim of circumstance. Joined under a totally different manager to who he ended up playing under.

I've got 45 years of tripe to go through (obviously not every year but still..) here are some serious candidates

Kearton
Holmes - Marshall - Keeley - Heard
Thomsen - Lodge - Williamson - Degn
Wright B - Belfitt

Bench: Brand (Gk), Thomas T, Tiler, Weifeng, Barlow, Angell, Hughes S

Manager: Obviously Mike Walker but a few candidates for Assistant Manager!!

Imagine having to re-organise that lot after Glenn Keeley gets sent off after 30 minutes.
