Over the years, relationships have drifted further apart between the Blue and Red half of the city. The Derby was one of the friendliest matches you could ever go to and many would mingle after the game to calmly debate the events to unfolded. These days is completely different for whatever reason. I personally hate Liverpool and still dont forgive them for the part they played at Heysel. The RS may be the most successful club in the country, but what people quickly overlook is that they are the only English club to have been directly responsible for imposing a European ban against all other English based clubs. One of those clubs who suffered most was of course Everton. At a time when we arguably had our best ever team that had just qualified for the European Cup "a team that could have gone on to win it", and the fact that RS fans where so envious of our success that they had to go on the rampage, was a very hard pill to swallow for me and i still have that lump in my throat to this day. I have friends that support Liverpool but each and everyone of them have an air of cockiness about them, boast about winning it five times which only brings up the past for me, and most of them are blinkered to there own failings. In short, "I HATE THEM". Evertonians are said to be bitter blues and do you know what, i think that is true, but i have my own phrase that i have never heard anyone else saying, "Blues are Bitter, Reds are Twisted".

it wasn't so bad til someone shouted "what about heysel" during the minutes silence at a derby game that was played on the 12th anniversary of hillsborough. the ground announcer was doing a bit about football tragedies but didn't mention heysel (it's taboo to talk about it ya know). the fella who said it was spot on and there was murder the rest of the afternoon. we're not bitter we just sick of them.
i have a phrase for them aswell.... self congratulating [Poor language removed]!!!!
when do you ever hear a kopite praise another team for winning a trophy? never, they know their time has come and gone. they're pissed because man utd are doing what they did 40 years ago. so to make them feel good about themselves they spout their [Poor language removed] all over us when they should be trying to put up an argument to utd fans.
sorry to rant.

We need more ranters Slav. I have other reasons to hate the old enemy and there fans but one that sticks in my mind, is two people i knew on seperate occasions, revealed to me that they never sang out Merseyside, Merseyside, Merseyside shortly after Hillsbrough despite fact that they attended the day when Everton/RS scarfs where stretched from Analfield to Goodison. I mean, what did we do to them?? What have we ever done to them. They have won the league 18 times yet we have never resorted in spoiling it for them has much as there success hurt inside. On them never praising other successful teams, you are right, although someone said to me a short while ago that they praised the excellent Arsenal side that won the League a few years back. All i can remember about that person was resentment towards them. LFC fans seem to believe they have the devine right to win the League but they wont win it this year and for many years to come "hopefully".

[Poor language removed] them, their fans have give nothing to football apart from a bad name to all english clubs. i remember gettin battered by me brother n his mates when campbell scored at anfield. as you say it's like they have their own agenda and have free reign to say or do whatever they want when they want. whenever a kopite in work tries windin me up i just go along with them n laugh, they don't get it and you can see there faces when they realise i'm not arsed what liverpool have done or will do. it's like i've just taken their fave crimbo toy away.

Hey, the beating you took for us winning them at Analfield was well worth it. For one, you are still as bigger an Evertonian than you was then, and secondly, us blues dont feel the need to resort to things like that. It is amazing the contrast between the two sets of fans. Its easy to spot RS fans however, all us blues have normal shaped heads whereas they have either two heads "one dafter than the other" or there heads are that big, you just cant help but notice them. There voices wont be so loud and big come May when United equal their 18 League Title wins.

Just need your opinions on how you think the rivalry started.

The split of 1892.

if you consider it to be a friendly one,

Never has been. If you know your history. There's reports going back into the late 1890s in long since defunct journals like the Liverpool Review condemning the 'partisanship' of Everton supporters who cheered on finding out news that Burnley had beaten Liverpool helping seal their relegation fate one season.

if it's changed at all over the years....

See above.

and your general opinion on the relationship of the two sets of fans.

Not helped by an Anfield hierarchy intent on belittling their older, proud neighbours and an Everton hierarchy intent on assisting them achieve the biggest Derby victory of all time.

1. Who do you consider your main rival?

Liverpool has always been the main rivals for Evertonians, this is not the case for those of red persuasion however who have chosen Man United has there main rivals.

2. Has it changed over the last 10 years? Why?

It has never changed for me but fans of LFC dont see us as a threat no more and dismiss us at there peril. They want to challenge MUFC, they want to keep up with them which is why they want to move 500 yards away on Stanley Park.

3. Who do you think Everton/Liverpool fans consider their main rival?

See answer to question 1.

4. Why? Is it History? Locality? League Status? Success?

Has much as LFC fans would never admit to it, they are now living in the shadow of Manchester United and are extremely jealous of there success. For us Evertonians, Liverpool will always be the local derby but tehy would say otherwise and even the media have labeled Liverpool v Manchester United "the derby".

5. What is your opinion of the following statement? “Bitter blue”

I do believe a lot of us Evertonians are bitter and with good cause. I have a saying, "blues are bitter, reds are twisted". Despite the success they have had, we have never been jealous enough to ruin it for them despite the hurt we feel inside, thats what those twisted lot did to us back in 1985.

6. How different do you consider the relationship between EFC/LFC and Rangers/Celtic and MUFC/City

Well the relationships between Celtic/Rangers are more strained because of religious views but those from Glasgow would have far greater knowledge than me regarding how each sets of fans mix socially on a day-to-day basis. United and City are very similar than our relationship with LFC fans. In my opinion, both cities are largely populated by the so-called lesser teams, Everton and City although a lot of Liverpool fans crawled out of the woodwork when they won the CL. Evertonians and City fans are born, not manufactured unlike the other two who fill there stadiums full of Irish, Scandanavians etc etc.

7. What is your opinion of the Heysel disaster? Did it affect you in any way?

A taboo topic to those twisted fans, a topic that gets them upset when you mention the word Heysel! My opinion is that LFC should have been banned from European Competitions instead of UEFA punishing those who where completely innocent. As it takes two to fight, Juventus should also have been banned but instead of banning those two alone, they banned all English clubs and let Italian clubs off scott free which was unjustified in my opinion.

8. What impact do you think Heysel had on the relationship of LFC and EFC fans?

I can only speak on a personal matter here, but what relationship i did have with LFC fans evaporated after Heysel and with each passing year, my hatred towards them has grown stronger.

9. What is your opinion of the Hillsborough disaster? Did it affect you in any way?

It did'nt affected me directly but i was saddened by the incident. This is another very touchy subject but i still dont understand what "justice for the 96" they are looking for. Those 96 tragic deaths where ultimately caused by a rush of fans attempting to gain free entry into the stands. The Police and Stewards made big mistakes and only made the situation much worse.

10. What impact do you think Hillsborough had on the relationship of EFC/LFC fans

It should have brought both sets of fans closer together and it did for a short time, but due to the twisted nature of LFC fans, this friendly relationship was short lived.

11. How do you define success for EFC? Rate the following

- Winning the league 3 out of 10
- FA Cup 7 out of 10
- Champions league 0 out of 10
- European qualification 8 out of 10
- Financial security 7 out of 10

12. How do you think Liverpool fans would rate the previous?

Zero on everyone and for their success rates, they would give themselves 100 out of 10 for everything. Saying that, they claim they have not had enough money to spend on players despite them keeping a £27 million striker on the bench.

13. How important do you think it is to move stadium financially? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Moving or developing stadiums is needed badly but i am still against moving to Kirkby. I feel local transport is a problem. Many say that we need to get more revenue for tourism, but moving to Kirkby would surely take that away. Keep Everton in our City, find a site for developing a new stadium, get the sufficient funds and permission to build a new stadium and we would be fine. Moving out of the city boundaries will only lower the clubs status.

14. What is your opinion of a ground share?

Never in a trillion years would i want to share with that shower.

15. What is your opinion of local media coverage of Everton and Liverpool?

The Liverpool Echo is exactly what it says on the tin, "LIVERPOOL". They clearly hold LFC in higher regards over us. Radio coverage is not too bad although Radio City tend to favour the reds whereas Radio Merseyside seems to be playing on a more level field.

16. What is your opinion of national media coverage of Everton and Liverpool? Why do you think there are more pundits that are Liverpool fans or previous Liverpool players?

National media is awful towards Everton and over praises the so-called top four. Has for pundits, i suppose they choose more ex-liverpool players because they believe they have had greater success in the past and must know what they are talking about. Is this the case however? I mean MotD have Mark Lawrenson... need i say more.

17. Is the locality of the fan base of your club important to you?

Very important but i seem to be a small minority who believes this.

18. How do you think the globalisation of the EPL affects Everton football club? Is it important to you that Everton take the global opportunities like Manchester United do?

We are global already to a point with our links with Thailand but are in a different league compared to MUFC.

1. Who do you consider your main rival?

Liverpool

2. Has it changed over the last 10 years? Why?

No.
3. Who do you think Everton/Liverpool fans consider their main rival?

Evertonians - Liverpool; Liverpudlians - United

4. Why? Is it History? Locality? League Status? Success?

For Evertonians it's history; for Liverpool supporters it's success.

5. What is your opinion of the following statement? “Bitter blue”

Liverpool supporters hiding behind an insult to mask their failure to recognise their supporters past.

6. How different do you consider the relationship between EFC/LFC and Rangers/Celtic and MUFC/City

Everton were historically portrayed as the Catholic club, Liverpool the Protestant club - so I suppose there's a connection with the Auld Firm clubs in Glasgow, however dim and distant those linkls are now. Prior to Man City's good fortune in getting Arab billions, our rivalry is probably closer to Utd/City (although there's no way we are as far behind Liverpool in terms of success as City are behind Utd).

7. What is your opinion of the Heysel disaster? Did it affect you in any way?

It should be remembered for 39 people being killed by a combination of poor facilities and criminal behaviour of Liverpool supporters. Sadly, it's just a means for one upmanship from Evertonians whilst Liverpool supporters by and large conveniently ignore it.

8. What impact do you think Heysel had on the relationship of LFC and EFC fans?

Initially there was no bad feeling. Later, when Everton failed to keep pace off the pitch with Liverpool, it became a bone of contention. It's now a defining moment in relations between supporters of each club.

9. What is your opinion of the Hillsborough disaster? Did it affect you in any way?

What can you say to that? My opinion is that it was a disaster for the area. Many families are 'mixed', so how could it have been any other way? Personally I knew the family of the youngest victim and anyone around at the time will have known someone connected to someone connected, if you get my drift?

10. What impact do you think Hillsborough had on the relationship of EFC/LFC fans

Brought them together initially. That's why a real blow to relations is the opportunistic lies of Liverpool supporters of late in stating the memory of the Hillsboough dead have been abused by Everton supporters in recent Derbies. By and large (and notwithstanding a couple of ignorant dickheads) that is just a sick attempt on the part of some Liverpool supporters of using the dead to score a point.

11. How do you define success for EFC? Rate the following

2 Winning the league
3 FA Cup
1 Champions league
4 European qualification
5 Financial security

12. How do you think Liverpool fans would rate the previous?

I dont care.

13. How important do you think it is to move stadium financially? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Ha Ha. Next question....

14. What is your opinion of a ground share?

It's a logical way forward.

15. What is your opinion of local media coverage of Everton and Liverpool?

They are deferential to the ambitions of Liverpool supporters and preach 'realism' to Evertonians with any ambition.

16. What is your opinion of national media coverage of Everton and Liverpool? Why do you think there are more pundits that are Liverpool fans or previous Liverpool players?

Couldn't care less

17. Is the locality of the fan base of your club important to you?

Not really. But it's important to feel a sense of community and I've always thought of Everton as being a predominantly 'north end' (of Liverpool) football club.

18. How do you think the globalisation of the EPL affects Everton football club? Is it important to you that Everton take the global opportunities like Manchester United do?

I could care less about Everton's globalisation.

They pushed a wall over, it killed people, we got banned from Europe, we got bitter and twisted, they laughed, we got angry, they still laughed and didnt win anything for years, we laughed, then they fluked a CL, we got angry, their manager called us a small club, we laughed.

As a London born-and-bred Evertonian I never had the them-and-us thing until the European ban stunted our growth just at the time we were about to explode into the European Cup.

We lost Howard Kendal and Gary Lineker to European clubs who could play in the competition and our great mid-eighties team went into decline, almost got relegated and struggled to rise again until Bill Kenwright pulled off the coup that was bringing David Moyes to Everton.

When RS brag about their European succcess it just serves to rub salt into the still-festering wound. Hopefully stopping them going back to the top of the table, and then knocking them out of the FA Cup might stop the stinging for a day or two.

well for a start the main difference is most blues come from the merseyside area while the scum import there fans from over the country , our cultural differences are vast which is now creating a distinctive hatred, theres nothing worse than a cockney red slavering on about how hes supported the [Poor language removed] since 1970 something and how the fat spanish one is going to build the next greatest team,
also add on to the constant bleating on how they have a divine right to win the premier when its plainly obvious that they are [Poor language removed],
fatboys comment on calling us a small club showed what a t""t he is and there chairmen have got them into massive debt {nothing wrong there} and hopefully they will go bankrupt if there is a god, the fact that the council bent over backwards and gave them the park to build there next shithole on and we have to in fight over moving to kirby(y)
