The fire rises
Okay, let's try and lift the mood a bit around here, and seeing as we have more than a few music buffs, let's try this.
You can pick anyone from any time to play in your dream band, who would your musicians be?
They don't necessarily have to play the same genre, just your personal favourites, I'm sure they'd all be able to work it out together.

I'm going to go for this:

Lead Singer : Thom Yorke. His voice is simply angelic.
Guitar : Tough one here, think I'll go for Jack White, I'd probably change my opinion tommorow, but he writes good good rifts.
Bass: Cliff Lee Burton. See songs like "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
Drums: Dave Grohl, a monster on drums.

Sure plenty will disagree, I can see an Alt/Metal theme for my band here. What's yours?

I'll mix it up a bit I guess

Lead Singer : Greg Gilbert (Delays) The man has a falsetto....covers all areas
Guitar : Albert Hammond Jr
Bass: Sir Paul McCartney.....he can sometimes fill in on vocals. Heard he can sing and pen a tune too ? =)
Drums: Travis Barker

Drums - Joey Jordison
Bass - Cliff Burton
Guitar - Kerry King
Guitar - The E (Severenth)
Vocals - Corey Taylor

Drums: Neil Peart (Rush). It was really hard not to choose John Bonham here.
Guitar: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
Bass: Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Lead Singer: Freddy Mercury (Queen)

Vocals - Liam Gallagher
Guitar/Piano/Vocals - Paul Weller
Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals - Bruce Springsteen
Bass - Mani (Stone Roses)
Drums - Keith Moon

Yeah, I know I've got three lead singers but I coulodn't leave any of them out :P

Making one is kind of hard, as my very favourite musicians might not gel into one group. So here's 5! :D

1.) Alternative/Funk rock

Vocals/Lyrics: Cedrc Bixler-Zavala (At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta)

Guitar: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta)

2.) Alternative/shoegaze

Vocals/Lyrics: Brian Aubert (Silversun Pickups)

Guitar: Greg Edwards (Autolux)

Drums: Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters)

3.) Mathcore/Avant-garde metal

Vocals/Lyrics: Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)

Guitar: Luke Hoskin (Protest the Hero) and Ben Weinman (The Dillinger Escape Plan)

Bass: Justin Chancellor (Tool)

Drums: Carl McGinely and Tyler Newberry (both of Kylesa)

Backing vocals/Lyrics: Jessicka (Scarling., Jack Off Jill)

Lead Guitar: Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney)

Rhythm Guitar/Backing Vocals: Laura Pleasants (Kylesa)

Honourable mentions - Chris Cornell, Jon Spencer, Beck Hansen, Kim Deal, Frank Black, Conor Oberst, Jeff Buckley and loads of others who don't spring to mind at this moment!

Oh....I'm bored, so I'm adding to my 4 members

The one of the right would be the guest Violinist....

I reckon I would style my band on the Go! Team. Ninja (I have a feeling that's not her real name.....would help out on the raps)

And if I could....I'd have as many members as I'm From Barcelona

I can't make just one, because it depends on what style you're going to play based on who you put in the band. But here's my first attempt:

Drums: Stewart Copeland. I think he's the best and most original drummer ever. He can play straight ahead rock and mix it up with more complicated rhythms too. Very versatile.

Guitar: Johnny Marr. I think the Edge is the most creative original guitarist in the history of rock but that works against him in this set up because I think he's too unique to put in an all star format. So I'll go with my second favorite guitarist of all time and that's Marr. Again, I think he's really versatile and clearly a remarkable songwriter. At least he used to be.

Bass: Tough one. Again you need someone who's creative but not off in space like a Les Claypool from Primus or something. I'm gonna go with the late, great John Entwhistle (assuming we can pick dead people). Such a musico and soooo underrated with the other three personalities in the Who. Just a fantastic rock bassist.

Singer: I have to go with Freddy Mercury on this one. What an amazing voice. There's really no one to touch him in terms of raw talent is there? He could sing everything. And he was one of the best showmen of all time on stage.

That's a weird lineup, but there go.

Completely disagree there. The Edge is all effects. He can play one note, and have his effects make it sound like he's actually playing something.

But I agree with what you said about Freddy Mercury. One of the best voices in rock.

Exactly. Name any other guitarist who has such a cleanly defined sound. You know a U2 song when you hear it. He's a sonic architect. No one else sounds like him and no one ever will. That's creative originality. No one is inventing new notes or chords.
