Youngsters Released

Personally, ive never really saw much in Hope, always thought Forrester was the better of the two, but Hope suffered from being shunted out to the wing like Anichebe was on occasion under Moyes. Think he'll be released next year.

Long has really come on leaps and bounds now hes got playing time and improved his attitude (quite an aggressive lad) and hes done exceptionally well to get a place in the u20 World Cup squad. Scored 15 goals in all comps last season, really cool finisher with great movement, a poacher if you will.

Thanks mate, he reminds me a bit of Jeffers. He sounds a bit similar to Mcaleny, obviously he's younger, do you think they view him as a better prospect? Or not sure?

Like turtles hatched on the beach. Only a few make it to the sea.

I went to a turtle sanctuary in Sri Lanka once where they dug up eggs from the beach and nurtured them under controlled conditiond away from predators. Eventually they were released to the U21's were most were gobbled up by Stubbs but some managed to make their way to the dizzy heights of the Indian Premiership Ocean.

Have to see how Martinez wants to setup but i cant see McAleny as a striker here in the true sense of the word. Hes much better coming in from the left with good speed, dribbling and finishing (think he got 10/11 last season)

Since Moyes primarily prefered Pienaar as a playmaker out left, McAleny couldn't offer that kind of service and you cant really play with 2 inverted wingers (Mirallas on the other flank)

I hope he brings McAleny into the fringes and uses him as a backup for Mirallas, would be a good understudy.

guess there will be no 'hammar' time then

roflroflroflroflroflroflroflrforlforlforlforlolololololo

that joke was well over-cooked.

really wanted hammer to be boss and play for us. suppose we can't keep all of them though, still looks like we're pretty well set up for the future

Maybe Hammar decided that he was behind Duffy and had no chance of playing in the near future so decided not to sign?

Hammar got displaced earlier in the season by Pennington, who then went back to the U18's for the Youth Cup run. Then Browning came in to CB from RB since Stone is preferred RB (and Browning promptly got called up for England U19 CB despite having not played CB for years...!) . So, all in all, Hammar was not really good enough, unfortunately, at least in the Stubbs/Weir opinion. And I spose they should know a good CB when they see one?

Hammar was no where near where he should have been at the end of this season. The fact a RB came in an totally out shone him says a lot, although Browning was excellent. Very much a strong and very fast Distin type.

It's a big step up. I remember the young centre back Hughes who captained the reserves for a long period and didn't break through. Peter Clarke too.

...Peter Clarke has gone on to make a very good living in the lower leagues and I hope that happens with these young lads. Its such a big step up to 1st team and I often think the clamour to get lads into the team is misplaced. If they are good enough they will come through. If they are not playing its because they are not good enough.

Just noticed on the FA list of retained players that Browning, Garbutt and Hope have been offered contracts but are yet to sign them. It's a bit of a concern.

Thankfully Bidwell, Duffy, Green, Lundstram and McAleny are all signed up.

There are some interesting full names on there too:

Marouane Fellaini-Bakkioui,
Magaye Serigne Falilou Dit Nelson Gueye,
John Gijsbert Alan Heitinga,
Kevin Antonio Joel Gislain Mirallas Y Castillo,
Bryan Josue Oviedo Jimenez.
