Theres a few over the Years that have been let go at this stage and come back to haunt us tho, Jags, Baines and Barton I think?

But yes, indeed, good luck to the lads and hopefully they can still make a career out of it.

I wouldn't include Barton really. He was released at 14 and hasn't exactly come back to haunt us, just had an average career and been an absolute bell throughout.

Don't think so with George :)

Only joined the U16s from Chester under the radar, had a very uneventful first year in the u18s with injury and Hope, Forrester and Long up front. Only really started going this season and has scored 13 goals in all comps.

Personally i would have given him another year, but he certainly doesn't have the reputation that Long does.

You say average career.

I say a bloody good career.

Played for City, Newcastle, QPR and Marseille. Got an England cap.

I'd say that's better than say Jack Lester. A work horse lower league journeyman. Bartons career would be in the top 10% of all current professionals probably.

And yes I am still bitter from that summer I wanted him here. The year after he went uber bell and made me look a massive tit.

It's a big step up. I remember the young centre back Hughes who captained the reserves for a long period and didn't break through. Peter Clarke too.

Hughes went to his home town club Northampton didn't he, I was sure he'd have made it there but he seems to have to disappeared off the radar completely

It is very very rare to be able to say at this age if a lad will make it though. Most are not yet fully developed, their mental strength is unknown, and the twin diversions of birds and booze are being sampled by all their mates.

I would have the club having a series of sides playing in the Lancashire/Cheshire leagues, (maybe we already do?), because you just do not know until at least late teens if most will make it. There are exceptions, of course, but I would keep all of them longer, until it is obvious they wont make it.

Don't worry you weren't the only one, but I just wanted him but for only games against the rs.

Do you think the new boss had any say in these guys being released or will the club have acted on the likes of Kevin Sheedy's reports and recommendations. I would guess only so many can survive the cut before they are told 'YOU'RE FIRED'(n)
