2020/21 Yerry Mina

Ben Godfrey is not competition for Mina. At least not this season.

Godfrey is Holgate mark-2. Quick and a good passer but physically weak. Mina is a big presence
who rules the penalty area and who will not get rag-dolled as did Holgate by Giroud at CFC last season.

Playing away at Palace you need... Mina for the aerial onslaught . Playing away anywhere you need Mina
because unless a defense team has two strong headers of the ball then it is in trouble. That is why Mina and Kean
should always start. When Holgate plays the attack is looking to play on Holgate's weakness at every dead ball delivery.

carlo wants mina to be much more aggressive and you can see why. When he is on beast mode nobody will beat him physically. Powerful in the air and a big big lad on the ground. But he needs to have that aggression he had yesterday. Then he starts easy for me. Really like holgate but I dont think you can compare then if mina is in beast mode.

LOL

Not long ago Keane and Mina was garbage on here and Holgate was the next John Stones, but one that can actually defend. 4 games in Holgate is a weakling that shouldn't get a game. And Mina was shaky in 3 of those.

On current form Kean is first choice of the CBs since he's been outstanding. But Holgate is our best CB and has the potential to be one top 3 in the league .

Mina was responsible for the WBA goal but other than that he has been great this season and was fine for most
of last season too. He is a bloke who nobody can intimidate, who wins most aerial battles and is in the prime of his career.

Holgate shows promise but can be intimidated, does not dominate in the air, and is definitely not ahead of Keane and Mina in Carlo's thinking.

I don't want to quibble but I don't think Mina got into beast yesterday. The opposition was not there.

Godfrey doesn't look physically weak mate, the opposite, he looks a unit.

Ancelotti seems to prefer Keane and Holgate, just my opinion like.

Even including this season, where Mina has been far better than last. Mina has played in 46 games EPL games overall and Holgate 65, yet both have been involved in 16 losses each.

There are opinions and yet there are stats that show that Holgate has simply been the better central defender, and I'm pretty sure Carlo knows this.

Sadly he'll be eating frogs legs and snails come the time we play Liverpool mate.

I think in a lot of games Carlo may decide to play one of Keane/Mina alongside one of Holgate/Godfrey. We would then have a good mix of a pacey footballing centre back alongside one that's aerially dominant. In other games where we expect to defend deep (like Liverpool and City and perhaps Arsenal) he may decide to play Keane/Mina partnership.

Don't ask me who will be the favoured partnership. All 4 are good players and it could be a case of whoever is in possession needs to be displaced, either through injury or loss of form. The player coming in then needs to grab his chance. But competition for places is what we want isn't it?.
