Do you get the irony here?

Its the only way we will get these players mate, you just have to hope the players you sign are worth it.

City signed a fair share of flops as did Chelsea its about getting rid even for a massive loss and still trying to get the top players in on wages bigger than offered by clubs who were above them at the time.

So in order to progress we need to offer massive wages to players to attract them, but before we do that we need to offload the players that we offered massive wages to last year to attract.

Seems a pretty solid plan, I will pass it along to Marcel.

Please tell me how Manchester City who were bottom half signed players from under the noses of title winning clubs and CL clubs then mate.

Im sure Lescott, Tevez, Adebayor etc. All signed because they were all boyhood City fans...

We aren’t owned by a sovereign state. And money in the game has spiralled since Abramovich was blowing people away (financially I mean..)

Lescott and Tevez signed in 2009, the same year UEFA proposed FFP within the game.

You do the math.

The UEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations (FFP) were established to prevent professional football clubs spending more than they earn in the pursuit of success and in doing so getting into financial problems which might threaten their long-term survival.[1] They were agreed to in principle in September 2009 by the Financial Control Panel of football’s governing body in Europe (Union of European Football Associations.

I agree we haven't got the same backing City have but my point still stands at present we have nothing better to offer than Lyon if we simply match their terms/offer. The only way we can progress is do what we did last summer but on actual quality players not gash. Its the gamble but we simply have to keep trying.

"Shove over Elano, Bianchi wants to watch too"

I know you're making a different point, but worth adding on a tangent:

Not really signings associated with the current setup. Same for Corradi, Corluka, Bojinov, Fernandes, Benjani, Giovanni...

Once they put a proper structure in place the transfer strategy has generally been excellent, like LFC.
