Dodged a HUGE bullet here in Cairns, escaped with pretty minimal damage but lads I tell ya....hands down easily the scariest night of my life. Heart and thoughts go out to people in the areas south of Cairns...it was unforgiving aye.

Lost power and phones for 4 days, however recieved it back today in time to see my Blues go around.

We were very very very lucky.

Very pleased you're good mate, lets hope everyone else is too. That was some category 5 that like. The noise is horrible isn't it?

Thanks Chico, much appreciated. Yeah it's gonna take time, especially in the small communities, the pictures don't do it justice. If you didn't know you'd think a bomb had hit it.

That was my first, and yep the noise is very very intense, it's like a freight train right outside your house, what made it alot worse was it was pitch black at midnight. Fear of the unknown i guess...but when it arrived f@$& me you knew about it.Have got used to a few things up here after moving almost 2 years ago but that was the most intense experience of my life. After about 45 mins everything goes dead silent and then suddenly your right back in it.

Our winds speed were very mild compared other places and it scary enough aye.

290km an hour...not much will stand up to that....even weather equipment built to category 5 standard....see Willis Island.

I went through a category four, with 45 minute eye of the storm in the middle of night too mate. Can sympathise, but yours was ridiculously powerful so can't imagine. It will take a while, like you notice there are no leaves on the tree, like a nuclear winter my mate commented. It grows back and rebuild and so do the communities.

Let's hope there's not a repeat of one so strong in our lifetimes, luckily it seems you've got a good set of people up there.
