Xbox problems - Can you help

Morning,

My Xbox has gone funny. It keeps freezing and hence, i cant use it. It does not have the red ring of death and isnt in a place where it can get hot. Have looked on the net and they said it may be the HDD but have tried it without (and a memory card) but still no luck. It is out of warranty so will prop cost to get fixed. Anyone know how much they charge to repair Consoles.

Its proper annoying as i have a Megadrive thats 20yo and a N64 thats 10yo and they work as well as the day that they were born. Why does all now technology have to break??? Where are the build quality gone???

Any advice would be appreciated as its my DVD player as well.

was gonna say try the towel trick (wrapping it up in towels so it over heats on purpose - see google for complete instructions) but that only helps sort the red ring of death.

regarding your last point. yes mate, totally agree, technology breaks so easily these days. I have a JVC VHS player from 1988. Still runs like a dream.

Sure i have an old one in the loft but its not very good and wont work with my universal remote. Dont play games either! Might be cheaper to buy a new one, can take the HDD off and place it on an arcade so shouldnt set me back much more that £100. All depends on what Microsoft want to repair it. Why havent Apple made a console?

They made one product that had a few problems. With the amount they sold you would expect some problems. There PC's are so much better than a windows machine, got a Mac mini and Mac book and both are faultless. Got an ipod and iphone and both have been great. I still think that they are brilliant but can see why others have lost a bit of faith.

Had Macs all my life and championed them to everyone. Currently got a G5 iMac with every problem concievable to man. proper gutted.

also bought a new i-pod shuffle and was disgusted with the fact you have to use Apple headphones when they don't fit anyones ears..got stitched up for a 3 inch cable for £15 that has now broken. 3 clicks to rewind a track, 2 clicks to forward a track, hold down middle button for playlists....etc it goes on...

I am planning on getting a Mac Mini as i've wanted one since they were brought out...£400 they used to be..now all of a sudden they are £600-750...

When my Mac starting messing up, i lost faith in pretty much all technology except my 1988 JVC vhs...

I'm crying while i write this....

My old 360 (20GB model) red ringed a good few times, but it always worked again of its own volition. However it did start to crash a lot more. I don't think there's really much you can do, except make sure it's on its side, and it's well ventiliated.

My mates got an i-phone and an i-pod touch.

i-pod touch is handy for taking on holiday as you've got all your music / videos / games etc and you can keep checking for free or unencripted wifi to use to surf the netski without having to take your phone or risk accidently connecting abroad. stings that does.

+they are cheaper than i-phones...

Try a can of compressed air with the guts taken off, if it's freezing, sounds like poor circulation - make sure it's got room to breathe - so to speak, not under a drawker, or tight against a wall.

If you got an Iphone why did you get a Ipod as well?

It was an old ipod nano from about the 2nd Gen. Got the iphone as a new contract and leave the old ipod (with a knackered battery as its 6 years old) in the car. Hold more than a CD and dont need to change it loads.
