WWII Veteran Forced To Sell Medals To Afford Care.

Sad but everyone is just a number in life. 3/4 generations after you die, your life is practically deleted.

1/10 will say this it is very sad, 1/100,000 will actually care tomorrow and 1/10,000,000 will donate something to him.

It's more than sad and I don't care if it's "just life" - elderly people shouldn't end up in that situation, it's unfair. Having to pay for someone to help them live, how it that ever fair?
It's too easy for people to say "It's just how it is" and consider that a valid excuse.

People gladly donate money on certain websites to pay for people to do things like go on holiday, so why won't people donate for things like this? It's awful.

Spot on.

And yet, the Govt. will fund a £400,000 house for a scrounger and her 11-strong brood.

Just another shining example of how this country has gone completely to sh*t.

Yet people like Joey Essex and jordan get £5000 a time to "appear" at a nightclub.

Astonishing. I'm speechless, not in a high horse way, genuinely upset we allow our veterans to suffer like this.

You know how hard it is to find a picture of an old person working in McDonalds or KFC?

VERY!

Now I've had time to think about it, probably for the best. Shocking really.

He should not have to pay for his care, he is a true hero.

I also don't like the idea of a rich collector having his medals as some sort of trophy, if anything they should be in a museam for kids to see with his story. His generation paved the way for our freedom today.

This is going to be a really unpopular view, but here goes.

Firstly, the family made the decision to sell the medals, he was not forced. This usually means that the family have already been paying for his care up to now, either through their own resources, or from his assets via a power of attorney.

If, without the medals, they could not afford, from his remaining assets, the level of care chosen through a private nurse/nursing home, he would have been cared and paid for by the local authority/NHS.

Now, I do not think that anyone should have to pay for nursing care in their dotage. Lets face it, it seems the only time when health care is means tested in this country is when you are old, the system stinks, IMO. But in this case, the family.....

Actually, half way through this previously thought to be considered response, I am now disagreeing with myself!

Why should the elderly and their families have to pay for care in their later life??? 4th biggest economy in the world, FFS. My youngest lad is autistic, and the amount of tax payer funded support he and his mother, in particular, have had would run into £100s of thousands I guess. What is the fekkin difference?
