They say it's darkest just before the dawn. This summer the England senior team had a midfield pairing of Jake Livermore and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, because Jordan Henderson was out. I can't remember English football sinking as low as this in my lifetime, even under the likes of Graham Taylor and Kevin Keegan.

But looking a year into the future things could look very different. You've got the likes of Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek, Tom Davies, Lewis Cook all set to get regular games at their clubs, as well as Michael Keane and Jordan Pickford at the back. Up front there's the likes of Dowell, Lookman, Solanke, Abraham, Patrick Roberts who are likely gonna get a chance in the league this year.

If a handful of them have good seasons the squad could look very different, and young, when Russia comes around, reminiscent of Germany in 2010 even. I think we are witnessing the dawn of a new era. Vault me.

Go to agree with you mate. The only problem is the media pick the national team. In an ideal world the young players who have done so well this summer, should be allowed to grow together, but this wont happen.

Outstanding summer from the young England teams against traditional heavyweights at these levels.

I'm looking forward to seeing these lads get knocked out on penalties in successive semi finals at WC 22 and Euro 24.

A new era of bang average players

This kid is doing well for Palace so far

If him and Chalobah can force their way into the England team this season it would be such a big upgrade on Dier and Henderson. Something to build on. Chalobah is doing really well so far too.

Rinse and repeat, the manager will take some great kids, not play them and get knocked out in the early stages, or lose to germany.
