Sure, we're in day and age when Technological wizzbanged-ness is all the hoo ha, but where do you think its headed? Weve been floating around on the Internet for a few years now and its increasingly becoming essential across the Industrial world. Its info at the fingertips, its doing the things we had to go out of our houses for, its meeting people we would have never have otherwise met.

For someone like me I need the net and its goodies to survive to get work. Of course I survived with out it and could probably do again if I had to, but the withdrawals are horrific. For the older of us could you possibly have imagined this is how life would turn out? Was there any clue our lives would be largely devoted to a series of zeros and ones arranged in any number of unique combinations that would fulfill our wants and needs contained in a box and on a screen? If you grew up watching the Golden Vision screaming around was this what it was going to be like?

And what about the future? Are we headed to that scientific singularity where we act (but not dress) like the Borg? Where our movements and our very thoughts and impulses are tracked by the Governmental bodies to keep a tight lid on the populous?? If our previous views on the future, probably not, we've probably been indelibly impressioned with the thought that Big Brother is indeed everywhere and will be more-so.

I got to thinking about GOT and its affect on my life. Is it just replacing the Pub where before and after you can dissect a game, and has it become primarily more important seeing as where I live football is called soccer and referred to by some boofheads as Wogball, or Poofball? Is it the bridge to a new world, one where we will laugh at the clumsy awkwardness of the mobile phone and the PC and remember the 'old times' on forums like these? Or will we last forever dissecting the merits of savoury treats and random things which spring up until we die and have online funerals commemorating contributors. I'm thinking this form of life will evolve from any prior ideas we had about our continuing evolution. Will we, through cyberspace and time have that connection as long as we are sitting here banging out content for digestion and recourse?

When a forum shuts down did it ever really exist, or does it just evolve with the minds that invented it on to the next level?

Mmmmm coffee....

Imagine the productivity levels if the internet was shut down.

Forget beating the credit crunch, we could restart the sun when it expires.

The internet is vehicle for all manner of things, both good, bad and downright evil. It takes away peoples fears, it makes everybody 7foot tall, whether this is a good thing or a bad thing i dont know. I do know that the curse of text speak is destroying the way young children speak and write. Where does this lead? A world full of shorthand?

Before the internet, there was TV, before TV, there WERE books, before books it was mindless killing and wars, at least the internet has stopped the killing and wars, oh wait...............

There were books old chap.

And surely you know all of civilizations evils come from the seeds of destruction sewn by the likes of grand theft auto and the numerous first person shooter games available that 'encourage violence'.

Yes of course, before the internet, the world was a happy clappy kind of place.

Oh and please tell me you didnt just correct my English on an internet forum?

Theres nothing like violence to keep a society in check though.

Id say we need some kind of war every 40-50 years or society starts looking like it does today.

I think the internet is very very dangerous.

In fact, I think it could become self aware and end up exterminating the human race by launching nuclear missiles from both sides. Anyone left alive would be just trying to survive in the ruins while the internet hunts them down.

After that, the internet would then send a cyborg back in time to exterminate the mother of the guy who would try to shut it down in the future.

Scary scary stuff if you think about it.
