Any good ? Keep getting prompted for a free download but may swerve if it's a nuisance. From what I've read it is mostly app based so might be more appropriate for a tablet than a desk PC. Worth getting ?

I didn't have a choice, it automatically uploaded onto my laptop after me ignoring it for months. Managed to find all my old stuff and get rid of all the garbage it was making me want to use and not noticed anything better about it.

I got it as a new install on my new laptop. It has mostly been fine.

We did it as an upgrade from an existing Windows 8 installation, and it has been nothing but a nightmare on that machine.

So if you are starting fresh, I would go for it, but if upgrading, swerve it.

I am also quite annoyed at Windows Firewall constantly switching itself back on. And it does updates whenever it feels like. Not when is convenient for me.

I'm in the same position. Using Windows 7. Keep getting the prompt but rejecting it.

Interesting. Updating from 7 though?

I wouldn't do it.

I am from the old way of thinking that if you are upgrading OS, it needs to be done from a fresh clean disk. There are too many things that can go wrong with drivers and installed programs. Also Win 10 has a habit of just deleting crap if it isn't 'compatible' with 10.

Yes, I have read this from day 1 and have been deterred.
I'll swerve I think and keep hold of my 7 installation disk for when I upgrade computer. ;)

Likewise.

Windows 7 is the new Windows XP though, it just works and does so brilliantly with no bugs (compared to Win10, for example if you're a gamer - some games don't work, graphic cards don't get detected and you have to go through system settings and all that etc).
