Why so Negative?

I don't buy the Europe argument. We're out of the League cup which saved us some games, and the EL has been 5 extra matches (last one doesn't count), plus we have a bigger squad this season. Yes we've had injuries, but haven't we always had injuries?

None of that should have changed the manner in which we play, not to such extent as is evident.

we would have played reserves in League cup.

Cheer up. Things will get better.

Go and read the first 10 minutes of the match thread from last night. 10 minutes into the game and there is comments about boring, going to be a long night, we are awful, McGeady really is terrible isn't he ? yet he had hardly touched the ball to even have a go. Absolutely embarrassing reading to be honest.

I vowed to never rely on the match thread to get a feel for what is happening in the match whilst i am at work, but unfortunately i did again last night. Reading that thread and some of the comments, i was dreading going home to actually watch the game.

I have noticed that some posters are getting a bit bold. Some of the comments in that first few minutes from certain posters, they wouldn't of said a while back. Its like they're feeding off others... ' It has to be said, Everton are playing the worst football i've ever seen '. Jesus wept !

Nothing wrong with a bit of criticism from time to time but those first few minutes in that match thread is proof that there really is some whoppers amongst us.

About as much as any of our forward players, it's just that people are waiting for it and seizing on it to confirm a position they've taken up on the player.
The statistics back up the view that McGeady is a bit wasteful. So is Kev if I'm honest but he's also more dangerous so gets away with it.

I think the problem with McGeady is that he's almost a top 6 winger. It's not that he's bad he just isn't quite good enough.

However if he continues to improve defensively and his work rate then that could make up for it.

Whilst we are on the subject of negativity and players getting a lashing on here. Why has Coleman been given a swerve ? When he has played he has arguably been one of our worst players this season. Doesn't have the same drive going forward, the determination and his defensive duties have been somewhat of a liability, with gaps opening up behind like a Florida sinkhole.

The usual suspects get a rough ride on here but because Coleman is a crowd favourite, him stinking the place out this season gets overlooked.

Was he?

Not far off a goal, set up the third, did a good job giving Coleman a hand (look where their goal came from when he went off).

It's just lazy cliched nonsense almost totally divorced from reality to single McGeady out for criticism from a team performance like that.
Spot on, In my opinion McGeady was much more involved than Mirallas throughout the game but for obvious reasons he will not be criticised. Yes he does some bad things as well as good but who doesn't? I like him, always looking to go forward, his crossing is excellent (he should be taking the corners) and he helps out defensively.

We didn't play well but still won. I think it's games like this (playing poorly and still winning) that are important, especially to build confidence.
The performances will improve dramatically once we start getting a few wins under us.

Last night was the first time i have witnessed the crowd getting on the players back for how we were playing for quite a long time. The booing when we passed backwards. Its the first time for a while in which the players and the manager are getting a feeling from the crowd that it isn't good enough.

I think it's harsh to say "this season". He has been poor in the last few games, but earlier this season he was one of our better players

I think it's healthy for some contingent of any club's supporters to be negative most of the time...it keeps the club on its toes :D

Why are so many people so negative about the team? It is like some are not happy unless they are moaning. I enjoyed the game last night, great seeing us have a good lead in a game. League form has dipped, but many teams are struggling this season. We are still in the chase for a Euro place, few good results and we are competing again. We are doing fine in Europe, nice draw for the next round so a good chance of going through. Home draw in FA cup. Come on be happy and cheer the lads on.

And Merry Christmas to all Blues.
The negativity that you are feeling is generated by the team. Last season under Martinez the team was playing crisp passing football with plenty of movement off the ball and all the neutral pundits calling us one of the best teams to watch in the league.
This season the passing is laborious and often seemingly with no purpose. Square passing across the back four particularly with Distin anywhere near the ball is an accident waiting to happen.
When you are 3 0 up at home against a side without an away point all season you would expect us to go for the throat but our seemingly endless desire to keep possession of the football comes at the expense of a cutting edge.
Why when you get a free kick half way inside the opposition half do you end up with Howard in possession of the ball?????
Put it this way if we had been behind do you think it would be launched into the box? I do and it is not unreasonable for supporters to expect us to put the opposition defence under pressure from a free kick 15 yards outside the opposition penalty area.
I feel for Lukaku he gets absolutely NO service over the top.
Last night QPR were playing a high line which is a dangerous thing to do when one of your defenders, Richard Dunne, makes Osman look quick.
We never exploited this by passing down the channels and our wing men look like they are under instruction to come inside at every opportunity.
It is not a sin to play a ball into space and turn the defence but we very rarely do it.
As for a first time cross another rarity seldom seen at Goodison except for the opposition.
That is a lot to be negative about when you have just won 3 1 but the facts are that QPR had more shots at goal last night than we did and maybe if they had got the deflections the scoreline would have been 3 1 the other way.
Too often this season against struggling teams we keep them in games they should be out of Palace and Hull at home being prime examples and at 3 0 up last night with 10 minutes to go I did not feel the game was over.
1 min later and we had thrown QPR a lifeline which fortunately they did not grab.
That is why you have so much negativity

Three misplaced passes last night: that's less than any other midfielder or attacker we had out on the pitch. Who needs fact when we have our perceptions though?

Overdoing is what Mirallas did...in his own final third, btw. I dont remember that being mentioned anywhere like.

As I say, there's some absolute tosh written about this lad McGeady.
Mirallas, apart from his goal, wasn't great last night as he was selfish when attacking and poor defensively.

However it is McGeady, who was neither, who gets the abuse. Don't understand it myself, especially as you can tell he is very much a confidence player and the crowd noise affects him.

Any team missing their key players for long periods of time don't play the same way. We've had injuries to almost every one of our starting 11. Stones, Coleman, Barkley, Mirallas, Lukaku (playing with niggling injury) and now McCarthy have had long spells on the sidelines. That's pretty much the spine of our team and their injuries have been the type in which, it eats into match fitness. So even when they have fully recovered and in the team, they are not properly fit.

No team is going to play the same way with the kind of situation we find/found ourselves in.

Sometimes get the feel it's a safety in numbers attitude. Twas ever thus/ton.

I think we are (fairly) comparing our play last season and this season. We've strengthened over the summer, but we are not playing as well. I think that has something to do with a lot of our key players going off the boil: Baines and Coleman come to mind. I know we have injuries, but we were s**** when Barry and McCarthy were playing. We need to absolutely demolish a team in the league. That would stem a lot of whining.
