Why our form has taken such a dip?

Glass half full look at it - I seem to remember Southampton took a horrid dip in form around this time last year before turning it around after Christmas and finishing 6th

other than that, I have no explanation or hope

Then don't play them then

....who knows what's being said. He might well have told the squad that he's looking to bring new players in because he's not happy with what he's got. Historically, clubs can do little to move players on if they want to see out contracts but in the new world I suspect they will do all they can to generate income.

I would prefer to know what it was we were doing to collect those points. I think it is clear why our form has dipped, if you could call 27 months a dip, it is because our players are not as good as we had thought they were and they can't be arsed putting in a shift.

Because we only have 1 striker and no one who can play alongside or behind him effectively. Jagielka has also become a liability at the back as well, but keeps starting there because Koeman obviously doesn't rate Mori. We don't have a way of breaking down teams that sit back either.

Its quite obvious to me and its a combination of things. Firstly and most obviously its that we dont possess enough quality to be where the expectations are set for us to be.

I think privately the team wants to be top four, but unfortunately we dont have the creativity or determination to be a team who get to the top four. Personally I think we are really short of true creative midfielders, the likes or Arteta, Pienaar.. even Osman. We only have Barry who is more of a deep lying playmaker and really at his age he just cant perform every week.

Without this creativity a team like ours will only get in the top four through sheer determination and playing to the maximum every week, however these players arent capable of this and dont seem to have the correct mentality or professionalism or work rate to do this. I could easily see us beating Man Utd this week but then following that up with a loss at Watford. I think that because of the expectations of players and their realisation it wont happen we are subsequently seeing sloppiness and half hearted performances.

For the first time in my following Everton which has been 20 years I have pretty much scrapped this season in my head and accepted we will finish mid table. between 7th-12th. We wont do any better than that and it will be a difficult season to watch.

Depending on signings in January we may push for a bit higher but this is another problem for me. Koeman tried to sign Sissoko and he has signed Bolasie. I'm concerned about how he sees these players improving our team. Are either really upgrades on Deulofeu or Mirallas? I personally feel we should be signing players who are more consistent as consistency is required for top four.

Good post mate. I pretty much agree with everything.

After much thought I think we need a creative player like you say as when I stand back, all our players are very predictable. Playing like that in an unpredictable league will only get us mid table to 7th at a push.

We need some magic.

It's basically a lack of quality, but a CBA attitude is making things way worse than it need be, IMO. CBA in the premiership does not necessarily mean sauntering around not giving a flying one, like we saw last season. That sort of collective, down-tools non-performance is actually very rare (especially at Goodison Park) and a response to a crisis in management, proper lost the dressing room stuff.
It's more insidious than that at the moment, because it doesn't take much to phone in a performance at the top level. Premiership football is ridiculously intense - doesn't feel like it at times, when the likes of Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady are drawing a salary, but it basically is. So just being off a few percent, a little unfocussed, is enough to make you a complete passenger.

Thankfully it is not the truth.

He's well off the mark and clearly on a fishing expedition, and absolutely we should continue to do what we do, and more, to show what the club is about.

What does annoy me is Bill using community work, which is largely not down to him in the slightest, as a defence of his complete disregard for the clubs on field progress.

The form is poor and there'll be reasons for that but all the teams we're realistically competing with will go through a spell like the one we're having now.

I'm pretty confident we'll sort ourselves out and stay in and around this position all year. Outside the top 6 there is a real lack of quality in the league. We're all depressed about the current run we're on but I'd still take our squad over the vast majority.

Not so sure myself. It looks old/stale/dated/ to me. Not all, granted, but as a general overview.

But who is actually better? It's really slim pickings within this league.

I suppose Southampton could make a case for it but they haven't been averse to putting in some dour performances this season.
