I don't really understand why he hasn't been sacked yet? He's done an appalling job since taking over in 2012, he got a 'free pass' in the Euro's as he hadn't been in the job very long and was supposedly going to improve in the World Cup but we all seen how that turned out. Couldn't even get past the groups. I haven't seen any improvement since he took over the job but supposedly he has a project which will take time. The initial appointment of Hodgson was confusing because he was a complete flop at Liverpool and was completely exposed by the fans, media etc. Going into the WC everyone's expectations were so low and nobody expected anything, it speaks volumes that there was no buzz. Don't get me started on his tactics, INEPT.

Lowest attendance of an international at Wembley tonight I think.

Doez ny1 actually care about Engerland anymore?

the squad has barely any good players tbh hence why players like wilshere seem a shoe in. give me the job last year and i would have used this WC as a look towards the future and in 4 years england would be a whole more positive and may actually be exciting. team for now should be:

Hart
Clyne Stones Chambers Baines
Sterling Barkley Henderson Ox-c
Rooney
Sturridge
Forster, P. Jones, Shaw, Walcott, Delph/Shelvey, Lallana, Berahino

I am convinced the English have NFI about football and will never win anything again...hence, the 'Roys' of the land keep getting a gig. Thanks.

Good summary that.

Hodgson seems oddly immune to the strong criticism most England managers got. It's like everyone's collectively given up.

England shot themselves in the foot in the 90's: Bobby Robson, El Tel and Mystic Hoddle were hounded out, and the Prem became this huge monster which now appears to be stagnating the development of homegrown talent.

On the other hand, England have always been crap. When not at home, they've reached only one semi-final out of all the World Cups and Euros in history.

England have always been on the level of the likes of Denmark, Russia, Uruguay, Portugal...that solid second tier of nations who fail to qualify just as often as they bother the quarterfinals.

From that perspective, not much has changed. What's also not changed is the players publicly claiming they have a shout of winning the big tournaments:

Rooney on his captaincy:

“I’ve always wanted to win a trophy with England, and if I can lead us to do that, that’ll be the pinnacle of my career. I really do think it’s achievable. Look at the players we’ve got. They’re exciting players.

“They have to do what they do for their clubs with England, and we have to bring that together. Of course it’s very difficult. It is for any country, but that has to be our aim."

I guess England fans are finally tiring of this...

i've long given up caring about the England team, not really fussed about internationals bt I try and watch national teams when there's a Toff playing.

I spend these darned international breaks worrying that one of our men will get injured.

And I have been like this since Neville was crocked on a turnip patch/ rugby pitch in Dublin in 1986 and which I am 100% certain cost us the Double that season.

Not that Bobby Mimms did much wrong, he just didn't have that wee bit extra that Neville had.
