Why is America so ace?

As far as I can see as an outsider it is a genuine meritocracy.

America isn't burdened by our ridiculous class system and it is a country that actually admires and promotes self-starters.

This is a naive notion of America. Americas class system is based on affluence. There are plenty of old money families in America and plenty of people who come from tough working (or non working) class families who through a lack of finances have very little chance of changing their socio economic status. Anyone who believes that the UK state school system is in a mess should take a look at some of the US state schools.

From an entrepreneurial perspective their bankruptcy laws certainly do help people fail and still have opportunity to succeed.

Saying America is ace is like saying Europe is ace. You can't take a country that large and then fairly compare it to the UK or any other single Europena country. There are parts of America that are ace and parts that are not and aspects of American culture and society that are ace and many that are not.

What are the things about America that you believe are particularly ace?

Fair enough mate but nah. I've been around the country enough and if you walk into a normal bar there is piss beer.

Obviously I'm excluding the rare bars with micro breweries. But ordinary run of the mill bars serve piss beer.

Canadians do better beer than the US too. And they can hold it better.

just because the bars serve **** spent make the beer ****. I would put Brewery Ommegang up there with best beers in the world. dogfish head, goose island(pre-InBev), three floyds, russian river, etc. iI know that beer is personal preference but Canadians making better beer than the US is just wrong. im mates with Canadians who all agree. but don't take my word for it, go look at the best breweries in the world:

there's a lot about the states that is just crap( the people are ignorant in large swatches, government is trying to spy on everyone, fat people, etc) but the beer is absolutely not one of them.

Only one country in the developed world has lower social mobility than the UK...guess which one.

The meritocracy of America is a myth.

Pretty good indication of the beer of that county if it's bars serve up piss consistently though. The beer you link isn't widely served at all mate.

I know more Canadians than most lids I know and every single one of them will tell you their beer is better than American beer. Obviously we allow for some jingoism there but as a neutral who's spent time in both places and enjoyed the beer I'm afraid America is very much inferior. And miles behind Europe when it comes to getting a decent beer.

Anyway opinions and all that. You made me want some microbrewery beer now.

The meritocracy of America is a myth.

Reference please? If you're arguing that social mobility in the US has declined recently, I won't disagree. If you're arguing that social mobility in the US is a myth, you may want to see "US history, 1776 to 1976," using your local library, wikipedia, or various reasonable sources.
