Looked very threatening running at players yesterday, has great pace and seems very comfortable on the ball, BUT, who would moyes drop to the bench? Or a formation change? I think Cahill to the bench and we adopt a 4-2-3-1, Saha up front, osman, drenthe, Coleman/Barkley in attacking mid, with mofro, rodders and usual back four.

Thoughts?

I think theres a reason Moyes doesn't throw people on he doesn't trust in that in the blink of an eye teams'll score against you if you are too green.

I don't think the league is like anywhere else where you have to have a certain physique and mind set to perform at this level.

I think we need more good players rather than taking off our most experienced campaigner, who don't forget is still only 31, not 35.

We don't have enough players to start experimenting. Bottom line.

I'd like to see him start soon to allow him to settle into a formation and pick his moments to drive the ball forward as the game progresses. At present he's brought on to rescue the game which means he charges around like a mad bugger for 20 mins, which is fun to watch but I sense there's more to his game than that. I've also noticed him appeal to baines to allow him a crack at a free kick but nothing doing as yet. I'd rather see Cahill brought on late to wind up tired defenders (lescotts face was a picture when he was brought on 2nd half against City last season and we all know what happened next....)

Royston impressed me today, he showed some really promising things and looks to have a good range of skills. I'd love to see him on one wing and Barkley on the other, quite an exciting prospect. We need to find a solution to our lack of invention in possession.

Yep, Cahill to be dropped. We need to inject more pace going forward. Even yesterday, before the shocking decision, our forward movement was slow and laboured or predictable. It feels as if we need to play the perfect sequence of passes to make any sort of progress in the opposition's half. Drenthe, on the evidence of his time with us, is a breath of fresh air with his speed of thought/foot and trickery. As he showed yesterday, he can turn his man and run away from him which is what we need - some individual brilliance on one on one situations. lOf course, we could of gone on to win the game yesterday with Cahill in the side but long-term, I think Moyes will need to bite the bullet and use the Aussie as an impact sub.

That's where you guys would lose every week. We don't have this embarrassment of players we can just chop and change.

This kind of, 'someone else will obviously do better' mentality when we have NO ONE ELSE is plainly retarded.

"The lack of invention in possession"???

We lost that the minute we sold Pienaar and Arteta!! Did you miss that?

To be fair, I thought the line-up Moyes had out was the right one at the time. 4-5-1 with Cahill behind Saha might not be great against weaker teams at home, but we need that experience and determination in the "big games". And for a derby, Osman over new arrival Drenthe made sense.

But after Drenthe's display today, he has to start the next game.

Hard to disagree with you

Can't we put Drenthe in the side...and Cahill??

Granted noone should be immune form the Chop, but on this shoe string we should use all our players strengths.

First and foremost, in my opinion, we should be looking at a system that will give us a good balance (ie. looking a threat going forward while not leaving ourselves too exposed at the back). At the moment, with an average of a goal scored per game, it is fair to say that the balance is not right. We need fast players on the wings and up top. Just look at how Norwich has approached games against Chelsea and Manyoo, they've been extremely unlucky to lose in both with a squad less talented than ours. Everything just seems to come to a halt when the ball is sent forward to Tim or Saha...there's no fluidity.

Yeah, I agree with this post.

If you would have asked me to pick the starting XI today, I probably would have gone with the one that started today. In this sort of match, you really do need experienced players.

With that being said, Drenthe looked really lively today. I think he's someone that's really going to add to the squad this season. I'd definitely like to see him start next week.

Except for Donovan (in which he was only here for 3 months) moyes always brings on his newbies slow. Drenthe is a bit of a headcase so it might be good to have him settle in. He'll start next match.

Had no problem with the team selection, we were playing well. Rodders/Fellani looks a better pair than Fellani/Arteta. Cahill has gotten the better of LFC at times and the way we were winning corners he might have had a chance to bury one.

If Drenthe starts then either Cahill or Osman must go to the bench. Both are only effective behind the striker and almost useless at other positions. Then again it is only a matter of time before Saha gets injured again and the Osman behind Cahill strikeforce will have to gel again.

Knowing the FA who knows how long Rodders is going to be out from what I've heard Atkinson is doubling down on the fact he got the call 100000% right and when it comes to FA vs. Everton we always lose. Osman can play Rodders position if we want to be dare I say adventurous. Fellani should be able to handle defensive destroying ablities all by himself after all isn't that why Moyes paid 15M for him?

I would drop seamus he is not playing well at all. Only thing is who to play wide right we have nobody ossie is ineffectual when he plays there and Drenthe doesn't seem like he fancies the right hand side. He should start for me though
