Why do you support Everton?

There is no history of supporting the blues in our family. My dad was a Tottenham man but after the family settled in Wirral took us to watch Chester a lot. Fortunately my eldest brother saw the light first and started following Everton in the sixties. The spanner in the works was my next brother, as he didnt get on with the eldest when they were kids, he supported the dark side just to annoy him and has never really recovered. Luckily the third brother followed the eldest around the 69/70 season (understandable) and it was at that time that I nailed my colours to the mast. I seem to remember listening to the radio when we were 5-0 at half time against Chelsea (think I got that right) and thought "that's the team for me". It doesn't fade either, I must have jumped up and down in the last 15 minutes against Blackpool more than I have for years.

Arteta's Girl #66 is right, Everton chooses us. I started supporting Everton in the mid 1960's (age 7 ish), it all started with the Liverpool Echo. There was an offer in the paper whereby you could get charactitures of players from Liverpool or Everton; I always remember receiving Gordon West (fantastic goalie) and Brian Labone (legend) and from that point onwards I was a Blue. Never entered my head to ever be a red even though 90% of friends and peers were Liverpool fans. Once a Blue always a Blue.

Something just draws you in and you can't resist. I can't mention the amount of times people around me tried to drag me away to the red side (and Spurs for one half of my family) but nothing compared to Everton. The club just sucks you in and you become completely immersed in it.

My love affair started on f.a.cup final day 89. I was watching the build up to the game at home when they were playin "ferry across the mersey" showing clips of both sides. Being young, only 6, it took just the color of the jerseys to pick my team. Iv always liked the color blue and despised red, il never wear anything with red on it. I was never coaxed into supporting Everton, my dad being a Villa man and older brother, Leeds.

Im forever grateful for my dislike for the color red, with most mates following the RS or Manure, im glad i didnt become one of those.

Its been a rough ride at times, only one trophy in 20 plus years, but theres a certain pride in being an Evertonian, something il be til the day i die.

COYB.NSNO.

I wasn't aware there was a choice at stake in this matter :)

But if you want the background - Grandparents went in the 20s (moving here from London), Dad has been going for over 70 years (born in Everton Valley) and myself (also born here) going for over 40.. now my lad. Plus of course no RS in my immediate family.....so no chance of being poisoned.

Being an American I never would watch football. The World Cup was always a great event though. In the 2006 World Cup I saw Tim Cahill come on for Australia and score those 2 wonder goals to win it for them. The atmosphere gave me chills. I from then on followed Tim Cahill and fell in love with Everton. Never turned back and now I love the beautiful game.

I was born up there but we moved south when I was about 4. We'd go back every month or so for years to visit family.

My mum and dad, aunts, uncles and cousins were all red. The lot of them.

But my grandad (who was actually from Canada) taught me why I shouldn't follow them and what it meant to him to follow Everton. He was the proudest man I ever knew and was equally proud of Everton. I've been an Everton fan since then, about 32 years.

And I have no idea why it's taken me this long to join the forum. Shame on me! :-)

Because my Dad would never have had it any other way. Everyone on my Dad's side were/are blues.

I live in the Channel Islands and have grown up with fans of loads of different teams. But I have always had this feeling that none of them feel the same way about their team as i do about Everton and they never will.

Grew up with all red fans including my brother
watched the Milk cup final in 1984 and thought Everton were the better team despite losing so switched allegiances.

Been a nightmare ever since apart from the first 3 years obviously.

But blue through and through and the disappointment seems to strengthen my love for the club
