Why do you support Everton?

My Dad put a united shirt on me when i was younger, and when i was about 5 my two cousins took me to Goodison park, bought me the full kit. Been a blue ever since and that won't change ... EVER ! COYBB

It started with my grandma - a huge evertonian, she converted my Grandad from a half-hearted blue to a season ticket holder. Then his son met my Mum who was also a massive Blue after being influenced by her sister after her sister was influenced by her friends at young age (both her parents were reds) then I came along, being the youngest of 4, didn't have much choice really, apart from a few cousins who tried to turn me into a manc, I had none of that (I was 5). Blue ever since :)

It appears that the majority of you were all born into it, and rightly so, because who in their right mind would CHOOSE to support a club that frustrates us to no end? Oh wait...me and thousands of other crazies.

Being from across the pond makes it more difficult to follow the Prem, but I was introduced to this amazing league 4 yrs ago during my freshman year of college. At that point I could easily be categorized as a "typical Yank." My football knowledge was limited to Man United, Chelsea, Liver****e, the Arse, AC Milan, Barca, and Real. My favorite players were 'Dinho and Fat Ronaldo. Like I said...typical American. Pathetic, I know.

My best friend at school introduced me to the Prem. He's a lifelong Man Utd fan. Now, before you scream BANDWAGON, let me assure you that he knows more about the Prem and the history of his club than the millions of bandwagon Yanks combined. His FB status today..."February 6, 1958. We will never forget." No bandwagon fan knows the importance of that date. If there are any United fans on this forum (doubtful), they could attest to this.

Back to me. He introduced me to the Prem and all its glory. I watched EVERY SINGLE United game my freshman year, but I wanted my own team. I wasn't about to be "another Yank." Over the course of the 2007/08 season I had the pleasure of watching several Everton matches. Maybe it was because they have one of the best keepers in the world, who just so happens to be American. Maybe it was because they had footy magicians Pienaar, Bainesy, and Arteta. Those all contributed, but at the end of the day, it's all about Timmy Cahill. His blue-collar, no nonsense, hard work attitude immediately endeared me to the club. He creates an incredible each and every match day that makes it virtually impossible NOT to love Everton. Even in the worst of times we EXPECT to win.

Yes, I know i'm absolutely insane for CHOOSING to support a club that can have you in sheer ecstasy one second and deep depression the next(Exhibit A: yesterday's 5-3 result. thought I was going to die. my poor heart). And if you think i'm about to jump off the bandwagon just because we're going through a rough patch, you're crazy. i've only missed two matches the whole season, and that's only because i was at work, but i still followed the score on my phone. I have an Everton flag and pennant hanging over my bed.

It's now been almost 4yrs since I choose to support this amazing club, and looking back, I wouldn't trade it for any other. Evertonian for life. COYB!

Me old man and me watch lots of football. To keep your hand in like with who's playing locally and otherwise.

However,
With my old man having watched EFC since the 50's/60's and trained with Hickson on the Wirral back in his younger days, he's seen Young play and Ball...

But despite watching many clubs. There's something special about EFC which no other club has. Thats why watching another team might be interesting but the only LOVE is EVERTON.

Yesterday against Blackpool was an example. We went from one extreme to another back to another in terms of emotion. Just don't get that anywhere else. I was physically exhausted last night due to Everton.

Oh and my old man is PROUD that I support Everton.

You didn't choose, you were chosen b)

Mine is simple, my grandad was Scottish but moved to Liverpool, he worked at both clubs but always preferred Everton, his influence rubbed off on my ma, whos love for Everton rubbed off on my dad (he was pretty neutral before as he's from down south). Both are hardcore Everton fans now and took me to my first game when I was less than 2 months old, had a season ticket since I was 3, had one ever since and now I'm 21. Known nothing different than getting up and going Goodison every other Saturday.

Wouldn't have it any other way. I don't think any of us can TRULY put into words how we feel about this club. You just have to experience it to be able to get a peek into what it's like to be one of us. We can say we hate the incredible swing of emotions, but at the end of the day, we wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

Hate For The Red ****e

I was at the pub here in New Orleans, drinking and having fun. The Merseyside derby happened to be on Television. The Red ****e ****s who didn't come to the bar for any other reason but to be dumb****s were disturbing my time. From then on I swore allegiance to Everton.

Since that day years have passed & Everton friends and mates have come and gone. But the love I have for Everton has grown beyond my hatred for lfc & that will never change.

Most know my story.. I have made long winded posts in other threads on the topic..

I grew up an American Football fan, I watched, played and dreamed about it.
I hated soccer, knew nothing about it, but hated it none to less.

Early 2006 while getting ready to deploy to Iraq, I bought a PSP from the post exchange..
The only game the PX had was fifa world cup 2006.. "I thought, this is bull****.. This the only game they got?"
I had to buy it, can't get a PSP, and have no games for the long trip!!
I started playing the game, with the U.S. of course.. Had no idea how to play, or why I kept getting called offside.
But, when I scored on the game, everyone would know. I would scream and my battle's would be like " You just score, Keel?"
"yea bro"

Anyways, I get home from the desert in '07 and by this time I have a hint of respect for soccer, just because of the game alone.
No matter what happens, I would always love soccer games, at least.

Flipping through the channels after about a month home, and I run across a friendly between the U.S. and Argentina.
This is where I fell in love with the Game itself. That game was 0-0 but much better than the score suggest.

I knew Nothing at all about Club Football at this point..
I started some extreme research on the subject, and ultimately it lead me to the prem.
Once there I recognized some names, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal etc. But knew **** all about them.
I was looking to support a blue collar team, My AM football team is the Browns. I hate the patriots, Cowboys etc.

Moment of truth:
I got it down to three teams.
Leeds, Newcastle, Everton..

Everton won, obviously..
Now I am a blue for life.

COYB!

I have two answers - Firstly, when your local teams are Coventry, Leicester or Northampton what do you expect. Secondly, (and the real reason) is that when I was five years old I read the name 'Everton' on the back page of the News of the World. I liked that name - something magical about it. Forty five years later it's still magic!

I was a neutral fan for years, i didn't support anyone because most of my friends only supported teams like Man utd coz they were having success and were "the team" I just preferred to watch all games. That was until i met my ex in "2000" Her whole family are big Everton supporters and watched games with them and went to see games at Goodison, as soon as i went to my first game i fell in love with the club and become a huge supporter ever since......So one good thing i thank from that B***h of an ex is that i'm now a proud Everton fan. Thats my story lol

actually i cant remember when and why everton "came into my life". i have always loved football and everton too. when i was a kid premier league games was shown every saturday in telly. me and my dad watched games and played "vakio"-betting game. it has long history in my country. (since 1940) i quess my interest to premierleague and everton comes from those saturday telly-games. nowadays my teammates know very well who cheers for toffees. im the only one but PROUD.
after yesterdays great result my coach (who is huge leeds fan) concratulated me and reminded me about beckfords past ;)

I am from Cape Town South Africa. In August 1983 I moved into an office where we had a few FA fans. I was asked which team I supported and as my favourite team at that time was Cape Town City, that is what I said. I was told in no uncertain terms that only English FA teams were allowed and that "he" was a Liverpool fan and "he" was An Arsenal supporter, another was Man U but no-one was a Toffee supporter so that's what I said. "I'm an Everton supporter" and was jeered at and laughed at! At the end of the 83-84 season we won the FA cup, runner up in the Milk Cup (now the League Cup) two league titles 84–85 and 86–87 as well as the European Cup Winners' Cup in the 1985. In 85–86, Everton were runners up to Liverpool in both the league and the FA Cup. So not a bad record and although I have never been to see a match at Goodison Park, I have taken a tour through the stadium, an awesome experience and I will always be a blue!! I did not choose to support Everton, it just came out of my mouth, I was CHOSEN!!
