Why cant people understand football is a short term game

While I don't fully agree with the OP , why is there a need to resort to name calling ?
He started the thread somewhat politely and had some points that could be debated .
This isn't Twitter .
Saying that , I do agree with the majority of those who have said ( in a calm way ) that we should see how it all pans out .
We have a young squad that will get better and maybe , just maybe Feeney or another youngling may surprise us .

So many posts suggesting.. it's ok we will get a target in next summer or in the next window. The fact is, if we don't improve immensely then the better players will leave. That means richarlison....

This squad wont beat 7th this season, not a chance with centre back issues and lack of a zaha (better class than what we have)

Richarlison will not want to stay next season if we finish 8th again. This is the disappointment. That front 3 of zaha kean richarlison would have been immense. That wont happen now. That's the disappointment. We have no x factor again. We are basically a wolves Leicester level still. The same we have been for 20 years. And that glimmer of hope if finally taking that step is again shattered. And next season will be no different because top players will leave.

Time to use the fitted rubber sheets.

Football is a mix of long and short term, it is neither one nor the other. A club needs success, but it also needs a longer term plan. Our biggest issue is some short term success, the long term looks good.

I understand what your saying. But i think we are on the right track. Players are smarter than what we are lead to believe. A player wont up and go with 1 or 2 seasons if new top arrivals dont come in. They know if they move to another club similiar can happen. Some top players will up sticks no doubt but most will stay. Apart from city and spurs maybe the rs the rest are now buy and sell clubs. We need to be patient. Spurs took 5/6 years. We are really in year 3. Im not overly happy with this window(zouma would have made it) but i reckon we will be a match for alot of teams esp if kean does the bizz. If he does i see us breaking top 6.

I mean, I'm not enthused about Iwobi but FFS...it's been a decent window and can be altered in January if absolutely needed.

The point is, Had we signed zaha I would feel that we could go into any game and have an edge. Now we are very similar quality (just as last season) to the likes of Watford, Leicester wolves etc etc. We have nothing on them teams. So its inevitable that we will finish mid table because it will be a case of win some lose some against them teams. Whereas if we had got zaha we then start out scoring them teams more regularly and vaulting up the table.

It was a statement signing that didn't happen but really needed to if we wanted to bridge the gap. With things as they are... we just wont

We have a great chance of beating 7th

This is just depressing. Sorry, mate. Anyways, our sweet Prince is always the X factor. Always!!

There's only so much the club can do, if other clubs aren't prepared to sell (and that means putting unrealistic prices on players) then you move on from it. Zaha would have been a good addition but even at the kind of prices we were hearing he was massively overpriced, the price Palace wanted was even higher than that.

The club have been through a few seasons of throwing money away and it hasn't worked, it's going to take at least a few more transfer windows before a team can be built to maintain a decent push for higher top 4 spots in the league regularly. It's a simple fact that we're not going to attract the very best players out there at the moment so the club will need to build slowly with younger players and avoid wasting money unnecessarily aiming for a quick fix that won't happen.
