Who's To Blame

What about super Kevin Campbell?

Scored tonnes of goals in his carreer, done a great job at everton and always speaks fondly of his time here.I think he has his own business where he looks after security for footballers, but he might fancy a part time position as forwards coach.

Alan Shearer could teach Victor a few things about bruising defenders. Michael Owen (who is finished) could teach about poaching goals and making clever runs, and Robbie Fowler could teach about timing, poise and having a nose for where the ball will be (amongst other things he has a nose for)

Over my dead body...I'd rather have just a picture of Dixie propped up against the goalpost and tell them to "be like him".

If we hadn't given away a stupid penalty at anfield last season we might all be a bit more bothered about Beckford going. Personally, I don't see that he did too much wrong for the amount he cost us in wages. He was no world beater, but as soon as he got a sight on goal there was one thing in his mind. A not so clinical single minded striker is how I'll remember him. 4 mil is 4 mil though.

I guess if you're going to play a standard 4-4-1-1 formation with Cahill as the support striker, then you may as well just get rid of all your strikers and keep a couple. That's how I think Moyes was thinking anyway.
Speaking of our old strikers, interesting to see Radzinski still going strong at 37 in the Belgian League. Remember his last minute winner against Southampton.

Moyes- centreback
Round- fullback
Lumsden- midfielder
Holden- defender
Stubbs- centreback
Irvine- winger
Sheedy- midfielder

Over 50% of coaches at the club are defenders and not a single former forward. If we were going to get an ex-player to coach the side, like Ferdinand does for Spurs then Dunc is the obvious choice. Peter Beardsley would also be an excellent candidate, but I imagine he's settled at Newcastle.

and last i heard he was trying to bring David weir back?? I agree with what AB is saying as i have asked myself this question for years.

A good leader will know his own weaknesses and address it, Moyes sticks is head in the sand and carries on down blind alley's
. This is why i don't rate him. how long has it took him to bring in pace, it is obvious we need coaching in attacking football as we can't do it (this is why ahigh percentage of our goals are set pieces.) this is also obvious with the amount of strikers that fail at everton.

It was he attitude, moyes an the staff were forever telling him he had to work more in games. I remember the Wolves away when they were going nuts at him to do more an then subbed him.

I for one am not sorry at all that he's gone. he had the worst first touch of a footballer iv ever, ever seen. £3-4m for a free signing is a good deal. It's left us short yes, but we have big Vic...hahahhaha

The lad was quick but then he did have to chase his first touch! He also got lost or was late, can not remember which, before playing Reading in the cup. He shot alot when he should have passed, he missed alot when he should have scored. He threw his arms up in the air in disgust when things did not go his way(in the same manner as Anichebe) Did he ever jump to contest a header outside the box? His passing was poor as was his vision.

He was not without qualities though, in particular his movement in and around the box was excellent and as someone has alluded to already he had the selfish qualities that lead to more goals though I still maintain he was too selfish.

It's good business too get any money for him really but is it good business to sell two forwards and replace with an unknown quantity? That can only be answered in time.

Immore worried about the depth of players we have up front, i rate Vellios, dont know much about Denis bar the stats and clips, Vic wont ever get over ten in his best season abd may play out on the flanck, Cahill is essentialy a second striker. Saha is made of putty. A few bad injuries and we could be in manure buissness.

That said we i think we finsihed 5th and got to the cup final, playing Cahill and Mofro essentialy up front for most of the season.

I wondered wheather Hope may be elevated at least to the bench this season.

Forwards: Moyes has brought into the club from outside average players, by and large. McBride (honest enough, but not class by any stretch of the imagination), Johnson (decent but not top draw), Beattie (overrated and overvalued), Bent (not the greatest, but pound for pound his best buy forward wise?), Jo (hit and mostly miss), Beckford (limited ability to say the least). Saha and Yakubu are the two class forward's he got hold of in almost 10 years of trying, but the former has only had had a couple of purple patches between breakdowns. He's not very good at signing forwards, and his attempts at buying young forwards have been a complete flop.

I agree with most of what you're saying. Whenever something goes wrong Moyes always says 'we didn't work hard enough' or 'we lacked that bit of quality'. I don't think I've ever heard him say that the tactics were wrong. Most of the time we sit deep and try and hit the striker from distance. It would take some forward to score goals from that service. But Davey persists with banging his head against a brick wall. I don't necessarily agree about set pieces though. Only recently has Baines been taking direct freekicks. We should have been scoring more than our fair share of headers though with Fellaini, Distin, Heitinga, Cahill and Saha attacking the ball.
