Why oh why aren’t we appointing an interim manager then going all out for a DOF who can lead the search at the end of the season??

Kin’ hate this club so much man
Only thing I take from this is the board is worried about the idea of Ferguson for the rest of the season.

Quality players have already seen lampard make a pigs ear of the Chelsea job
tbf he didn't make a pig's ear of it at all really

he came in when they had their transfer ban so he was tasked with getting them CL using the existing squad (obviously a very good squad) and use youngsters and he did that.

Obviously then he was backed and Chelsea probably just brought in one player too many to play a similar role and that upped the pressure, obviously.

He wouldn't be my pick but he didn't do an awful job with Chelsea.

Can’t be worse than Benitez. He got better results in his 4 game PL spell than the oaf did.
Don’t disagree. I would have thought they would have been happy to hand Ferguson the reins while the strategic review plays out but maybe they have concerns for whatever reason.

It worked because he had Jody Morris next to him and it was him who had brought most of those youngsters through, he also was the one who had all the coaching qualifications whereas Lampard didn't (he does now I think) both have gone their separate ways now though. Also I don't think managers/coaches have much say on which players come in at Chelsea by all accounts.

No doubt, having the right back room staff is essential for most managers. There's no way Rooney can take the full credit for getting Derby back on their feet this season. Same when Lampard almost got them promoted. I just see Lampard having a bit more about him than Rooney from a coaching point of view. His dad and uncle were both decent coaches in their day.

….they will make key football decisions, particularly team selection and game management. They will be getting opinions on the touchline but will make decisions, largely based on Football impulse & gut feeling.

The coaches will do the organisation work in training, they will even work closely with the club doctor on medical and pastoral issues. We know Lampard is a very intelligent man (amongst the highest IQ in the country) which helps in whichever walk of like he works in, Rooney far less academic but he’s a football brain.

If anyone doesn't already read this column of cartoons, it's genius, and so good (and bad) (and funny) (and tragic) to see one exclusively on our woes. Especially accurate I think is the way Moshiri spits out Manager ideas and BK writes it down lol

It's going to be Rooney.

I don't mean that's my choice, but I think all the signs are pointing that way.

  • Bill loves the return of a prodigal son
  • Moshiri loves a Hollywood name
  • Dunc loves him, and vice-versa
  • He's the anti-Benitez candidate. He'd seem a corrective appointment as the polar opposite of an old, ex-Kopite.
  • He's currently doing well at Derby in difficult circumstances
  • Derby will let him go on the cheap or even free
