Who's nailed on for a starting place next season?

But at the moment we aren’t a top club. We got incredibly lucky to have lukaku but even he didn’t get to 20 this season for the team that finished second. Most seasons have between 2-4 players who score 20 goals. The clamours for a 20+ goal striker by some on here are ludicrous because there’s very few who can actually do it. Just go back and look at each season and see who has managed it and who they play for. In the last 10 seasons, 21 separate players have got over 20 goals. All but 3 have been from the “sky 6” and they were lukaku, vardy and Darren bent.

Tosun will likely be a 15 goal a season striker. He had 5 from 12 starts for one of the least creative teams in the league after moving to this league from a much worse league. Carry that over a whole season and he will get 15. That is enough until we can attract those magical 20+ strikers.

Niasse has an incredible minutes to goal ratio. I don’t care if he cant control it, he puts the ball in the net and does it well. And DCL is improving and is still very young. Walcott can also play there. We have options who can provide very different styles for the manager.

Then you and I have differing levels of expectations. I’m ok with that. I meant 20+ in all competitions also.

Nailed on this will be the side for the 1st PL game of.the new season, never mind individual players.

Pickford
Coleman
Jags
Keane
Baines
Gueye
Schneiderlin
Sigurdsson
Bolasie

Tosun

I want us to be competing at the top but currently we aren’t and so can’t attract these top players right now. And your post said no top team goes through the league, it wasn’t all competitions. If we have a good cup run, I don’t see why tosun couldn’t hit 20.

I can see 3 maybe 4 who I would keep but realistically we are going to start next season with the same group of players. Might get an addition or two but cant see many leaving for good - will be loans with a hope they will buy. We just need to consolidate, manage expectations regarding league position (please no shouts for top 4), play some decent footy and try and get cup runs going, get into the Europa League get ssential European experience. We need to back the manager through the inevitable slump and look at the bigger picture, if we are making progress on and off the pitch then I will be happy.
