Baines or Barry... Stones is not ready for that. Don't want to throw massive responsibility on a young player still developing his game. In a few years though, Stones will be the clear choice.

Would it fill the team with confidence if young player would be lifted to be a captain after his own comments wich stated "I want to keep learning from Jagielka"

It would be too obvious...and actually even Stones might not like it atm. Too artificial and could be seen as a desperate try to highen his price etc...

Jags if fine captain. For now..
Question was if no jags though tbf

stones - far 2 young + 2 much on his shoulders, baines -love him but 2 quiet 4 captain, if gonna b taking it from jags then would have 2 go barry or mcarthy! Or just club captain 4 barry incase doesnt hold first team spot, tho we know that wont change with bobby. tho I do think u'd get an boost out of lukaku if it was stuck on his shoulders! actually give it 2 dunc, u wont find more respect then after that happens!

Has to be McCarthy though I also think Pienaar would be a handy captain considering that he has wealth of experience, if only he could just stay fit.

After hearing that Baines apparently turned down being vice-captain I honestly lost a lot of respect for him. He should have stepped up to the plate and embraced the responsibility, instead he seemingly refused and hid behind the whole "I'm more the quiet type" excuse. Disappointing.

On the other hand, it could be argued that if he knows he isn't the greatest leader, he'd therefore not be doing the best job when called upon so is in fact doing the right thing.

Know your remit and that.

Stones so we can appease him to stay and fast track his development to fulfil his potential thereby making him happy to stay in a top 4 club :p

There's no character limit on posts mate.

You can't give the captaincy to a young lad who hasn't done enough in his career to deserve it.
Agree.

Wouldn't give it to Barry because he wasn't good enough last season (alot of people on here probably don't even want him in the side).
Agree.

Osman won't be starting every game, so its Baines for me. It would be interesting to see how he would react to being given the captaincy actually. It might bring him out of his shell a bit.
Agree with the bold.

Baines just doesn't seem to be the personality type. It's surprising, but there's no point giving someone the captaincy if they don't want to be a leader. I'm also surprised by the lack of support for Coleman as captain.

Based on that premise its probably between Barry, Baines and Osman (although I'm not 100% convinced that any of them are perfect fro the job in terms of personality).

Agree.

Yeah I do agree with that (which I did mention at the start of my original post). I was just clutching at straws really.... hoping that if he was given the job it might change him.

Its a bit of a strange situation in our squad, you look through the senior players and there seems to back a lack of obvious leaders. Coleman is an interesting shout though.

John Stones is 44 games into his Everton Career. He's not ready for Captaincy yet. Jags is the Club Captain. But if he couldn't perform the role due to injury then Baines or McCarthy would be my next choices.
