If we're looking at players best positions, I'd go with:

RB
Hibbo
Coleman
Gosling
Neill

CB
Yobo
Jags
Distin
Duffy

LB
Baines

DM
Neville
Rodwell
Heitinga

CM
Fellaini
Osman
Arteta

AM
Cahill

Wings
Pienaar
Bily
Donovan

Striker
Yak
Saha
Jo
Vaughan
Anichebe

Seeing the squad as a list fills me with encouragement because it's a very good squad. It also depresses me because of how many haven't been available this year.

I quite agree this most be the best squad we have had for ages. My first 11 have also been hard to select but this is what I have come up with. I have selected 4-5-1 because we have more good midfielders than strikers IMO.

GK - Howard (no competition)

RB - Neville (capt. and as good a RB as we have)
CB - Jagielka (best CB)
CB - Heitinga (ball-playing CB and has that beast/scary factor)
LB - Baines (no competition)

RM - Bilayletdinov (ball-player who will benefit from Neville's foward runs)
DM - Arteta (the maestro to pull the strings)
CM - Fellaini (his game is improving at all levels and will benefit from Arteta)
LM - Piennar (only real winger and link-up with Baines is classic)
AM - Cahill (goal-scoring threat and my fav)

ST - Yakubu (his work with Cahill before his injury was great and he is superb when fit)

Subs: Nash, Saha, Osman, Yobo, Neill, Rodwell, Vaughan

Hardest part was leaving Saha, Neill and Rodwell on the bench. Amazingly enough that means players like Distin and Hibbert don't even make the bench :o
