Who is to blame for the lack of new signings?

Why do we have a lack of new signings?

I still have faith in the staff that they're doing the best they can with what they have, I just think they underestimated how hard it would be to find talent this summer. The fact is, Everton have looked awful over the last few years, the top talents just won't want to come. I'm starting to get a bit worried about the start of the season, but I still feel the blame should mostly be put on the previous group in charge. I don't think we're going to be in a relegation fight, but a top 10 finish might be further away than we thought.

Agree with everything.

I'm also going to add I don't think the new recruitment team got started soon enough in planning the transfer window. Hand in hand with pre season games.

This has been our problem in recent years. Hence the poor starts. Truly hope this will be the last year of this.

ye the previous have set us so far back

The recruitment team are to blame. Its pretty clear there is no overall strategy.
Perhaps it's semantics, but I think we can see the strategy - go younger, hungrier, top end talent whose best days are ahead of them. Look at the guys we've signed (Barry and Aznou) and are/were linked with (Delap and Fofana)

But the problem has been execution. Perhaps we feel we have a better hand to play than we actually do. Sure we can throw money at the problem, but guys still have to want to come here. And many of those young guys want European football.

We need to improve how we're viewed first - up from relegation struggler to European place challenger - to get more of those types of talent in.

I think it's too easy to blame this stuff on the recruitment team, when it's much more nuanced than that

What would a good strategy be? Kidnapping the players and forcing them to sign a contract? If players don't want to sign for us and have better options I don't see what anyone can do about that. We arent rolling in cash so we have to build.some positivity about the place with less depressing on field performances and some desperately needed stability. Thats the only stratergy that can help us over a number of seasons.
