So presuming by the first game of the season v Spurs and we haven't signed a keeper, who would you play in goal as the number one going into the start of the season?

Joel or Stekelenburg?
Let's look at the facts shall we?

Robles was not first choice at Wigan, he played when their other keeper was injured I remember (although I forget his name - Hamzi or something)?

When Robles signed here, he was second to the established Tim Howard. While he did supersede Howard, this was mainly down to Tim's lack of form due to age as opposed to Robles being world class. He did, it must be said, perform admirably and deserved consideration yesterday. He was Spain U21 keeper ahead of De Gea until injury don't forget.

With a new manager signing Stekelenburg, and playing Stekelenburg on his first game, I would say Stekelenberg is our current #1, although if the Joe Hart rumours are to be believed this will not last, and nor will Joel, which is a shame because there's a decent goalie in there.

Felt really sorry for Robles yesterday.

It would appear that as long as he's at Everton he's forever destined to be the back up keeper.

Have to say I felt a lot more comfortable all day with the Stek rather than with Robles who whilst at times he's looked sound has never fully convinced myself or I think the vast majority of fans. It's to early to tell if Stek will remain our No1 but he certainly justified his place yesterday and earned another go next week for me. It was nice to see him try and keep hold of shots he thought he could as well, made a nice change. Looked a solid keeper all round.

I don't; if he wants to be #1 then he needs to try harder in training to impress. He's still sat there earning an absurd amount of money.

I agree with you both. He's obviously happy to spend his entire career being a decent back up keeper. Still feel a bit sorry for him though !
