The problem there lies with Tim Cahill.

I love the Aussie little scamp, I would have his babies, but he cant play in a flat 4 man midfield and for me, hes too valueable to leave out, which then means we play 4-5-1.

It's the worst kind of conundrum. I'm of the opinion that no man is bigger than the team. If dropping Cahill and going with 2 out and out strikers, or a 4-2-3-1, helps the team to win then we do that. And last year, when he was injured and in the Antipodean Cup of Bad Timing, we used a 4-2-3-1 with Ossie as the key midfielder instead of Cahill and also used Beckford and Saha in a 4-4-1-1/4-4-2. Both heralded a lot more success than the 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 with Cahill in the first half of the season.

So to me it's a no-brainer. Although that said the ideal situation is to devise a formula that works for the team and can include Cahill. But for me we just can't stick with the formation and lineup that had us go until October without a win.

I also dont think Saha and Beckford can play together, they are both selfish players and neither works well as a unit, both need a fetcher, NO NOT FLETCHER, somebody to do their legwork, somebody to lay it on a plate and step aside, im not saying they are lazy, well, maybe they are, but they are both great finishers, I just dont think they work well together.

I disagree, mate.

I think in the brief spell which they partnered each other last year they were promising. Saha arguably filled the Cahill role, as he sat deeper and welcomed the ball, whereas Becks did the legwork as you say by making runs and crucially, opening up space. Space which we could exploit because we had another striker on the pitch, and one as lethal as Saha (when in form).

I don't have the exact stats but between them they scored a lot of goals in the few games they played together. I was at one or two and the Blackpool game comes to mind as well. Although it was only Blackpool I don't think 5 goals between the two of them in one game can be ignored. We didn't manage that when we played them earlier on in the season with Cahill and the usual 4-5-1.

Bellamy would be good business especially on loan, if we could get the money together, late in the summer then someone like Honda could go for about 10m. I have a feeling we'll be chasing Kenwyne Jones though for that blasted 4-5-1.

I just think they are too similar in style, but as I said, they both know where the goal is, would be interesting, but considering Saha is perma injured, dont suppose they would get much time to gel.

That's the main problem, isn't it? Although you could argue if Saha didn't have fitness problems he'd never have left Man Utd in the first place.

I'd suggest Yakubu as an ideal person to compliment Beckford but I sense that would make you fume and kick the cat.

I love my cat lad, never say that about my cat again, I will cut you like a frigging grape.

No, yes, well, oh I dunno.

I like, liked the Yak, I was a fan, but for me, he went a little bit snide, nothing to base that on, just a feeling I got, hes got snide form as well.

If the real Yak can come back and play, I would be all for it.

Or maybe we should bid for Stephen Fletcher?? HAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHA, oh wow Jesus, I was sick a little bit then.

Saha did surpriseingly well in the Cahill role, i cant remember the last time we played 4-4-2 and i dont think we ever will under Davey to be honest. Saha's work rate in there was tremendous and actually ran at players, his distribution was very good and his pace, movement and football intellegence was great coming from deep. To be honest though i dont think his body is up to putting in that kind of a shift week in and week out - as we saw he was out for months after that four game stint.

As for STC, well what can you say he bagged 9 goals in half a season and is usually good for in and around ten, in terms of goal scoring, work rate, nuisance value, leadership, charicter etc its hard to leave him out. If im honest i couldnt see another second striker bringing in over 10 goals a season and have the impact on the team and the oppoistion STC does. His role can isoate the striker becuase he doesnt have the pace to keep up with Saha or Beckford - but value comes when coming from deep.

To be honest i dont think STC is exactly the focal point of the porblem in terms of isolating our one up front or overall our difficulty goal scoring, its the flanks for me! If we had pace on either side and attacked quickly as a three the two inside forwards supporting the striker we would be much more of a goal threat.

We rely to much on technicality in the final third and not enough, on directness, pace and catching back fours out of position and making them work hard - we allow other teams to set up two deep banks of four, mark up our players and position themselves infront of there goal while we technicaly look for a slim opening tip tapping it around in front of them or loose hope and just launch one in hoping someone will get on the end of it.

Saha looked brilliant just off Beckford. The formation didn't change all that much, we just had a different style of player in the hole.

I don't think Cahill off Beckford is as bad a partnership as people make out either, they caused Chelsea all sorts of problems at the Stamford bridge. It wouldn't be my first choice but it's still an option, if needed. The midfield would have to be packed with creativity, though.

Another thing, is Coleman suspended for the first game of the season?
