Allardyce Out
Just reading Dans comments on the other thread that the priority is a striker.

I sort of agree, however service is an issue we had last year and N'Zogbia, who we're laughably missing out on, would have gone a way to sort that - especially given that there's absolutely no other winger in world football comparable to him who we could have got at that price.

So we have to settle for the fact we're not signing a winger for certain this summer, and probably nobody at all.

But if we did, it would be a striker.

Saying that, here's my problem. I'm racking my brains trying to figure out who the hell we could bring in that would improve the side and who we could reasonable afford AND would want to join the club.

I've just booted up FM11 to use as a database just to see if I can spot someone who fits the criteria and, Bendtner and Sturridge aside, there's absolutely nobody I can pick out who I could reasonably foresee joining us.

Is it a case of because the quality the squad has, without money there's absolutely no point signing anyone because they'd swallow up wages and sit on the bench at best? Or do you have any ideas as to who could come in.

Because it's all well and good criticising the board (and rightly so IMO) but to be fair to them it's not like the market is flooded with affordable, quality players.

I think a creative, pacey player should be the priority as we're only going to be able to afford one. And even then that's if something miraculous happens. Right now we can't afford either.

N'Zogbia, as much as I was sure we were never going to buy him, really did seem like our best chance at a winger. Striker-wise I haven't seen any similar opportunities arise. You look around now and to get a striker capable of 15+ goals, short of an Odemwingie punt/megabuy, you're going to have to stump up in excess of £20 million. If we can't afford £9.5 million, how can we afford that?

And yes, as this thread really highlights, who on earth is there? Sturridge on loan? That's probably the only player I can think of who would improve us for a fee that wouldn't require us to sell all our best players.

interesting to see what Kenwright will do now. im sure he feels a little bit humiliated by all this. he know fans want reinforcements, and they all seem to just pass us. i dont know s h i t anymore, im gonna drink some sealblood for that one.
but actually, this doesnt hurt so much. im sure we will get someone, i have a hunch that it will be huge suprise for all of us.*

Clearly the biggest obstacle is financial, if we could get £5-6m together i'm confident we could get someone to improve our attack because its really our weakest area.

Dame N'Doye from Copenhagen would be a decent shout, i think he would only cost about £6m or so. Henri Bienvenu from Young Boys impressed me when i watched him too. Antony Ujah and Lacina Traore have just gone for fairly small fee's too they would've been brilliant.

We
Have
No
Money

If we had money I could make a list lad.

That's what I'm saying though. We can throw together £3m from the Pienaar/Vaughan/Yak loan money (even if it has been ringfenced to support debt it could still be used if need be) but even for that amount there's sod all about.

So then clearly someone needs to go, someone who other clubs are actually interested in. Either that or we need to lower our valuations to get clubs interested. This can't continue.....

Premier League Clubs who hope to advance dont spend £3m on a friggin striker lad, give your head a shake.

You can't under value key players as that will have every club nicking players off us.

The problem we have with our squad players is that their wages are too high to sell to teams interested in them.

Jags is the only player a club is interested in....15mill will probably. swing it

Im not one who thinks a striker is as much as a priority as a wide player! But given the criteria:

Keane
Bellamy
Santa Cruz.

In order:

Keane. Yes please is my initial reaction. Then when I think objectively, and pretend I don't follow the Irish team, I'd have to say no. He's old and would still cost us a bit.

Bellamy. He's a bell, he's old, he's injury prone and he's not a proper striker.

Santa Cruz. Look at his goalscoring record on wikipedia. Go on. Yeah. Now hang your head in shame. I would honestly rather have chicoazul up front.
