haha they were married but told everyone after they got famous they were brother and sister. I've been told by a friend who is a huge fan that the brother and sister thing was an idea stolen from a band in the 50's. Their marriage has been documented.

Oh ffs. On the day I find out Crime in Stereo dispanded, another one of my top 10 bands dispand. FFS FFS FFS.

*cries*

Its been on the cards for awhile though hasnt it?

Sad though, but i suspect we may well see more of them in years to come Meg hasnt been well for a couple of years and given Jack is so hyperactive they've prolly just put a lid on questions about the band for now.

They'll be back at some point of that i'm sure

To be fair Jack White's had about 50 bands on the side. All of which are excellent, imo. The guy's just got an endless pool of ideas and talent.

Meg is a far better drummer than she gets credit for (I'd argue the primary function of a drummer is to keep a beat, and provide the foundation of the song, and she does this very well indeed), but ultimately she just provides Jack White with a way to fully express himself musically. I'm sure he'll find other ways to do this, but that said, his best stuff was always with Meg. Perhaps having more (band members) is really less, sometimes.

And all of that said, they released 6 studio albums. 6 genre-shifting, evolving, hard-rocking, innovative and fecking brilliant albums. That's a lot more than most bands can boast. And for just two people, it's a monumental achievement.

*goes on White Stripes binge*

Cant disagree with you mate a fine post as you say Jack is utterly hyper active and thankfully thats a good thing in this case(can you imagine someone say like Gary Barlow from take that having as much going on,i think i'd find a cliff and end it all ;))

The Raconteurs > The White Stripes

Check out "It Might Get Loud", a 2009 documentary with Jack, Jimmy Page and The Edge. Great contrast in styles and technique.

It's all opinions but I disagree. The White Stripes are just too diverse and perpetually good. They nailed the blues, they nailed pop rock, they nailed harder rock, they nailed the modern ballad (A Martyr for my Love for You is immense) and they made their own fresh niche and sounds too. The Raconteurs are excellent but they've not put out nearly enough music to even begin to make the comparison. And I know quality trumps quantity, but the White Stripes managed both, with a nonchalant, effortless swagger, no less.

I saw them twice. In a tiny venue in Birmingham with about 100 people about a month before Hotel Yorba began to get airplay. Would love to have been the one responsible for picking up on them, but that credit had to go to my old flatmate who dragged me along. Awesome night that was. They hit the big time shortly afterwards.

Then they came to the Czech Republic when I lived there in 2005. They'd been packing out arena size venues in the UK yet they were playing the Roxy in Prague, a 1500 capacity venue, touring off the back of Get Behind Me Satan. Obviously I had much more appreciation for them at this point and am still astonished at the craftsmanship and energy of Jack White. Such a sound from one man. Great gig, and the first one I went to with my wife incidentally...so happy memories. Apart from the fight I got into with two coked up American teenagers that is.

Thanks for the output Jack & Meg. Appreciated, truly.
