PhilM

Player Valuation: £80m
A hypothetical one here and clearly it is very subjective, but a little question for you all to consider on this wet and miserable Wednesday.

We all to different extents have questions and concerns about our current status, some being overly critical while others being more cautious.

However, if you could choose one ex-Everton player to come straight into our starting XI who would it be? And importantly why?

Obviously there'll be questions of the rigours of the modern game, so let's just pretend that they will be able to automatically adapt.

There are countless players to chose from across numerous generations from the likes of Dean, Labone, Young, Lineker et al.

Thus who do you think would make the biggest impact? What position do you think needs bolstering with an Everton legend?

Personally, I've gone for Neville 'The Bin Man' Southall as our first choice keeper to replace Howard and mentor Robles.

Defensively there are lots of concerns between the fans, so I think a player of his amazing ability between the sticks would bolster the squad.

Offensively we're quite strong and I'm confident that our defence isn't too bad in itself, therefore Nev would just underpin all this.

Dixie Dean

Why?

In the words of Bill Shankly:

"Dixie was the greatest centre forward there will ever be. His record of goalscoring is the most amazing thing under the sun. He belongs in the company of the supremely great like Beethoven, Shakespeare and Rembrandt."

Tony Hibbert. considering he has vanished off the face of the earth.

Alternatively, in my time Kanchelskis. Him and Del on the wings would be a sight to see, two top wingers and yarmalenko could shine his boots for him in the summer.

I loved Sheedy !!
Sheedy and Steven were both fantastic players for the Blues, but then I thought are they what we really need right now? That's the difficulty in it.

As @The Esk mentioned, Dean would be an extremely easy to chose answer as from all accounts he was sublime as his record shows.

Nevertheless, I think Rom is a pretty good striker (obviously nowhere near Dean or some others) while our keeping situation is questionable.

Hence why I went for Nev. As @Fresh Prince of Belle Val said it's so hard as there are lots of ex-greats who I'd love in our squad right now.
