where does Tim Cahill Fit In Now

This is not an anti Tim Cahill thread..He's one of my favorite players..I am just wondering where does he fit in?

Beckford and Saha's movement was great upfront and I am not sure Tim moves like a striker..

He could replace Beckford..But I think Beckfords pace and movement should not be left out..It's gonna be a tough one for Moyes , When tim comes back..

Timmy fits....depending on who we play IMO.

But in adding that extra to our build play that we've badly needed in terms of creativity and tactics...he shouldnt be first on the team sheet.

But we'll see how it gets on.

Difficult question, but we'll see when he comes back really. All we can focus on right now are the games when he's not here, and the players we have available.

perhaps we could play more of a 5-1-2-1-2. with fellaini playing a more cdm, and i guess arteta and coleman on the wings with freedom to move. then cahill kind of like a cam.

im assuming pienaar is gone by the end of january. but if he stays, it will almost certainly push beckford to the bench

He works against some teams, but we shouldn't be afraid to partner Beckford with someone who will compliment him. And to do so before the 80th minute.

Timmy's important to us, make no mistake, but he shouldn't be a shoe-in every game. Sometimes we need to play the right players for the right formation, and not just the players with the best stats and/or tats.

Agreed...

Tough one. He's an important player, but in many ways he limits us when he plays. If we keep performing like this and winning games, i would like to think he will have a fight to get back in the team when he returns.

IF we carry on playing well with 4-4-2, then it is hard to see where he'll fit in again.

We'll obviously cock up the game before he gets back, giving Moyes the perfect excuse to throw him back in.

Lets review this 4-4-2 after a run of games before we start writing Cahill's place in the team off.

Exactly.

My feeling is that there's a time and a place for Cahill, and there's a time and a place for 4-4-2. It's down to Moyes to get the balance right and earn his paycheck really!

I would definitely, definitely stick with 4-4-2 at least till Cahill is back though.

I dont think anyone is or would...but just pointing out the team should dictate who we play against rather than shoehorning players - includes dropping the undroppable so to speak or playing your Rodwell's and Osmans on the wing for the most part etc.
