Here's a thought.

It is slightly less than three years ago that we had reached a similiar nadir after the shameful second half surrender against the RS at Wembley.

Two years on from that we had the magic that was last season.

We are feeling down at the moment.

But that is only for now.

Where do we go from here?

We keep on keeping on.

Because we are tangled up in Blue.

(There's one for the Dylanistos ;))

the season before last we were a very good side, that failed to strengthen at january, it hasn't been this bad for a while, we all knew we probably wouldnt win anything with moyes, but we wouldnt be relegated either, with this fella in charge we don't really know how bad it could get, fans a rightfully fearful for the future, he might have a good summer, you know, not pimp himself out for four weeks and actually do a pre season, and turn things around. but him continually making the same mistakes makes me doubtful

So, now I've had 24 hrs to think, climb off the ceiling and tell myself (Repeatedly) that things will be ok, I was thinking about whats next for us. Whats next for the team and where do we need to strengthen and shed some "Timber" for the 2015/16 season.

From the back... I think its evident that we need to sort out our defending and get back to being tight and sturdy again. In goal, I think Tim seems to have had a tough time this year and it hasn't helped him OR his confidence that the individual errors have cost us dearly and he has to take some responsibility from leading from behind. I think Robles is now really ready to push for next year so hope that the gaffer gives him the chance. For me, we need to shell out on 2 decent Centre Halves... Perhaps one that is close that can be developed for future (To replace Jags) and then someone who is good to go now. I was impressed with Simon Kjaer from Lille and think he would slot in just fine to play with Stones and/or Jags. I love Distin and the service he has given us but I think that its clear that the gaffer doesn't fancy him much this year so think that will be one to leave. I think the Left back situation is good with Baines and Garbutt... I think thats a great little fight for a place, however I think a new challenge for Seamus Coleman would do him some good as he just seems to have been off it a little this year for me. With all that said the players coming through the academy and under 21's are exciting and think that they may be able to fill those spots and I'm interested to see how they progress. No mention of Alcaraz... I hear you say! He is already removed from my memory banks. Was never, is not now and will never be an Everton player! He'd be the first out the door for me!

In midfield. I think we have quite a bit of excess to trim. Centrally, I think we have to build the core of this part of the pitch around McCarthy, Besic and Barkley. It also needs another creative "passer" a Gibbo, but about 5-8 years younger, maybe someone like Will Hughes??, someone who can play looking forwards and passing positively to stretch the game. That for me would leave Barry surplus to requirements and give Gibbo and Ossie a limited role but I think they expect that will be the case now in the latter part of their careers. Im hoping Pienaar will come back fit and strong but again time isn't on his side. Width is something that we benefitted from last season and I think that wing players like a Lennon or Atsu can give us the pace we need but need to work on the final product. We have to shed some weight in this area and make it lean but with quality but base the midfield around that younger, hungrier, energetic, progressive core.

In attack... We have to keep Rom and build our spearhead off him... He is what we need and the player that can, with time really be "the man". I'd love Mirallas to stay as I think his pace and inventiveness are a real plus to our attack but that may now change based on our "European" status. I like the "idea" of Kone. Works hard, holds the ball well, seems a great team player... For me NOT quite good enough and I know his injuries have meant we haven't seen the best of him but I'm doubting we ever will. Naisy is another one who Im in 2 minds with, work rate and commitment to the cause can never be faulted but sometimes technically he seems a notch or 2 below what you'd want, but then again he comes in with some vital goals and so for me can really give us something when the chips are down and you need someone to make the energetic difference.

I guess overall Im thinking we need to have the younger core with some strong additions and trim some of the bulk to give a leaner, more powerful team that is aggressive, dynamic and with has great technique and I think that some of those changes could help us achieve that. As always, just my opinion so would like to get some other ideas/thoughts?

Best

Could have saved yourself some time and just wrote "get rid the old rubbish players and get good young players to replace them"

Out with the Old - In with the New - we are: The Over 30s Club

Howard, Hibbertoni, Baines, Jags, Distin, Alkitrash, Barry, Osman, Pienaar, Kone

How many of these deserve to be in the starting eleven? Baines and Jags? Or even to be considered? Ossie or Pienaar perhaps (or on the bench)? Kone (on the bench?) Right now - of these ten: SEVEN are getting regular game time (and apart from Baines and Jags it would seem to be a mistake) - Hibbert and Pienaar are on borrowed time and Distin has been put out to grass.. That's far too many at the back end of a 51 game season.

If all factors remain the same i.e. RM stays, we keep roughly the same squad (I won't be happy) but...

Having watched us this season we are clearly mentally frail, that shows in matches when we lose a lead or go behind. I don't know what the solution is maybe get in someone who can instil mental resilience. I look at the skipper, great bloke, decent defender ( but not top 4) but unable to get his own 'roll up sleeves' attitude across to the team; it seems.

I can't recall the last time I saw any player dishing out an expletive ridden piece of feedback to a colleague during a game.

Best thing would be to punt martinez. Keeping the status quo would have us going into next season with the fans still divided, goodison still venomous, our best players wanting out and a manager who isn't willing to change or when he rarely does and gets it right (see QPR, Newcastle etc) he tinkers with it the week after and it's back to square one.

A new manager in (preferably a De Boer type) would have optermism high and might keep a few of the lads to stay

Who ever the manager is,I just hope we prepare properly in the close season, not like last close season, oh and change the captaincy for starters, and get a grip with the coaching at FF,and if it's Martinez please stop treating the Evertonians like idiots, end of rant.

We offload the deadwood in the summer and use our new injection of TV cash to go and find value in the likes of La Liga and the Bundesliga. Martinez when he came in was being quoted as having this mass knowledge of La Liga (this might be a lie or a dream) so it would be nice to not get linked with Al Habsi and instead throw a bit of money at the likes of Malaga, Sociedad, Sevilla and Villarreal who we can almost certainly beat every single time when it comes to wages.

Get some quality in, get some youth and hunger throughout the squad and make it so our oppositions game plan of 9 behind the ball and then counter isn't stupidly effective.

If we want to go anywhere from here we need to start shedding the likes of Naismith, Barry, Kone, Howard, Alcaraz and replace them with players 10 years younger.

Regarding the "deadwood" not so easy to remove. First they have to be identified and then what contracts have they got? You cannot just open the door and ask them to leave. If they have any sort of contract, they will stay because I cannot see any other club being interested in them.
