My son and daughters first Everton kits
My Dads Uncle(a Red!!) worked for the GPO(Telecom) and worked on installing the Telephone lines at Goodison for all the journalists at the World Cup in 1966,he had a cine film of himself with Pele,Eusebio and the rest of the stars that my old man actually saw,he said it was ace,his uncle died donkeys years ago and my dad never knew what became of the film.![]()
The year head for the year above me said he was linesman for the Brazil v Portugal match in '66. (He wasn't like, but he did have something to do with it)
Last time I seen him was on Tv in the tunnel with the players before the 'hutchison' derby.
I still have the match ticket from Wimbledon vs. Everton, 26th Jan 1993, when we won 3-1 there. Nothing too significant in that except the attendance that night was just 3,039 - the lowest ever attendance for a Premiership league, and clearly a record that is highly unlikely ever to be broken. And I was there!
That was a cold night!
I remember a 0-0 there from about the same time, a March game midweek, freezing cold on the open terracing behind the goal. An appalling match as well. The one and only time I bought Bovril at a game, perishing in a horrible cold wind.
The 3,039 night, the police/stewards allowed Everton fans the chance to sit in the Arthur Waite stand at no extra cost instead of being on the big open normal away end terrace. It just added to the overall emptiness of the place, the sight of Big Nev having to climb over the advertising hoarding, walk through an open gate onto the terrace and then trudge up 20 yds to get the ball was just comical. Not even a ball boy there.
There was a burger van at the top of the open terrace, remember getting a hot dog from there and a cup of tea - tea was ok....
