What's changed Moysey?

Great to see DM make a change at half time, seeing we were down one and looking like getting over-run. An attacking change at that, and with that blue blood grit , determination and GP rocking, we got amongst them and took home the choccies.

So, given our dire start this year, where situations much like half time resulted in the mandatory moyes changes on 75 min with little effect, what has changed??

Is it because our season has nothing left to play for, and moyes thought "what do we have to lose". The threat of relegation well gone, top flight status secure, or the lure of that extra 500 kings for retaining seventh spot instead of eighth.

What say you all?? Why now?

No pressure, expectations are pretty much zero = bold decisions will be made at times.

I think we need to see that type of action earlier in the campaign to declare he's turned a new leaf.

Don't go getting your hopes. He's still Moyes! Bringing Arteta straight back in an Cahill when not fully fit. If we aint playing for owt why nor let them have a proper rest?

tbf, i don't think the substitution at halftime did all that much, as beckford's play didn't change the game too much for me. he held the ball up which was helpful, plus it allowed anichebe to drop back more, where he was oddly effective. what i will give moyes major credit for is whatever the hell he said to them in the dressing room at halftime, as we played like a completely different team, much better than the last time we beat them.

i wonder if neville has anything to do with it. i'm sure he gives a great peptalk before we play city as well

edit: when i was talking about the substitution, i was only referring to bringing beckford on. the cahill substitution worked out very well, as i think concern over him freed up space for distin

Cahill has a great record against City dating back to when he scored his first goal for us against them in 2004. Perhaps like you say his apperance coupled with the fact he is seen as a talisman when we play them may have just caused enough distraction for the first goal. Take nothing away from Distan though it was great to see him score particularly after his slip led to the first goal. Plus seriously who wipes stood up lol!

I think it was switching from a defensive 4-5-1 to an attacking 4-4-2 and deciding to have a go at City that caused the change. When we do that there aren't many teams that can live with us. We've put all the big clubs under pressure and reaped our rewards. I wish we'd do it more often.

that was probably true on the day, but i don't think that result is always consistent. sometimes when moyes moves neville out of defensive midfield we struggle, it happened that heitinga was up for it on the day and had a good game disrupting the attacks. i agree i think we play better as a 4-4-2, but it might be the novelty of it, rather than it simply being a better formation.
