We play some lovely football and some dire football.Yeah and because of our finances we can't make wholesale changes every transfer window, so patience is required to see how we develope.
Do you prefer the football on offer now? And do you think we're closer to win a cup or two than we were when he showed up?
Patience is what this team and manager need most of all.
I would argue that. I think this club has more potential than any club since then, but it's far from a finished product. There's a staggering amount of young talent, but as young players tend to do, they're prone to inconsistency and mistakes.I don't think anybody would argue that this squad is the best we've had arguably since mid 80s, in fact I'd say there is a marked similarity between where this squad stands and where the squad Howie had in 83/84 stood.
Are our best players going to have the patience to stick around whilst Martinez gets it right ? That's the worry.
But what Howie realised he needed to get that squad over the hump and winning trophies was to recruit a winner, a character that simply would not accept second best... And the arrival of Andy Gray filled that gap, ticked that box, completed the circle and we became and learned how to be winners
