What is an Everton Legend ?

I will never forget seeing big dunc head home against united, and as I'm not old enough to have ever see us win a trophy you've got to hold onto to moments like that, so to me he'll always be a legend, but I think there's a difference between personal legends and club legends. The same can be said of Hibbo, Arteta and Cahill, they'll always be legends to my generation, but won't go down in history as the all time greats. We've got to look to the future now and hope Baines can get a couple of trophies under his belt to earm himself a statue!!

An Everton legend is a player or person involved with the club who holds a special place in the heart of a significant number of Evertonians for exploits involving the club.

That's my definition anyway. Dunc is undoubtedly an Everton legend for me, as is Tim Cahill.

You can have different types of legends without diluting the meaning of the word. A legend doesn't have to win trophies.

One will be remembered beyond their current generation (legend), whilst the other will be remembered fondly for a shorter amount of time (cult hero).

For example, I'd class Stracqualursi as a cult hero, Ferguson as a legend. That's the way I see it anyway, but it really is up to individual interpretation.

I dont think cult hero status has anything to do with ability.......look at eddie the eagle for example ....hibbo is another case in point
