Player Valuation: £8m
I was expecting that our performance after Arteta's injury will take a hit, but even I didn't expect that it will look so dull. At least we are still collecting points and our D is still doing a decent job collecting a clean sheets.

Even if both frustrate me very aften Pienaar and Osman are the only players we have at the moment, who can try to organize something and limit our "hoofing game to the max". This short list also includes Baines, but he has limited impact, playing as a left back.

I am not sure if Moyes would go for it, since it requires some tactical changes and we have some important games waiting for us, but I believe that we need a second big change in the system we are playing. First one worked nicely (moving Arteta to the centre), this one probably won't have as much positive impact as the first one, but IMHO is worth a try.

It looks like Moyes wants to keep all 3 CBs happy, so why not just playing 3 at the back. Jagielka is doing very solid job as RB, but seeing him trying to attack on the right flank is not what can work and help us. So why not playing Lescott as LCB, Jagielka as CB and Yobo as RCB.

This would allow to Baines and Neville (or eventually Gosling) to play in more advancing positions on the flanks, in wingback roles.

Rodwell did a decent shielding job tonight as DM, so I would keep him there.

It won't be possible to do it every game (with Blackburn physical style I doubt it would work tonight, since our midfield could be easily overrun), but in some games I would try to put Pienaar and Osman together in CM positions, Pienaar with more freedom to attack, and Osman sticking to sit back a little bit and trying to organize our game. I believe we had a better moments attacking wise vs WBA and Blackburn when Osman was playing in the centre, so why not trying to keep it up.

If it would help us limit our "hoofing game to the max" it's still a chance to Jo can work playing up-front, just like he did against Bolton, when our game was still was looking really good. If we can't do it, playing him as Target Man is pointless, just use Saha, Cahill or Fellaini there.

Also if we would need to put some bigger muscles in centre of midfield, today's game is an indication that Cahill can actually do a better job than Fellaini there, so it's another thing worth a consideration - use "Timbo" as CM or as Target Man, and just keeping Fellaini (or use Saha) as Attacking Midfielder/Second Striker.

Any opinions?

We will be just fine. We are Everton. We do everything the hard way and still have a great opportunity to reach our second semi-final in a successive seasons, and qualifying for European football. How many of us would have believed that earlier on in the season??

Hope Fellaini, Osman and Pienaar find form and that Saha stays fit.

Im struggling to think of how to swap it about, Toccy's usually good on the tactic front.

On the plus side, Fellaini and Osman can only improve, especially the latter, with match fitness. Both are clearly struggling fitness wise.

In terms of changing it, I would be starting Gosling ahead of Osman for the time being.

Im defo with you on that G-man. Osman doesnt play well wide so bang Gosling in there and Rodwell and Fellaini in the middle, Neville to right back. Well, perhaps anyways.

Wouldn't hurt to let VDM get his boots dirty. I'm honestly reaching the point where I think the only reason Moyes doesn't play him is fear that his performance will raise questions as to why he has been left on the bench for so long.

Osman and Neville in the middle would be best, Osman provides that little bit of creativity that lacking at the moment, he also doesn't shy away from the ball.

Hopefully Saha coming into the side aswell, he's a creative player and that's what we need at the moment.

My first 11, given current injuries:

----------------Howard------------
Neville--- Yobo---Jags-------Lescott
--------------Rodwell----------------
Gosling-------Fellaini------Baines
-------Cahill-----------------------
----------------Saha--------------

Chopping and changing the midfield to see what works is whats needed I feel.

If Ossie goes in the middle, you need width on the right. Why VDM doesnt get a shout I dont know, so fair to say Gosling over there. Same if Pienaar moved into the middle. It would be a good alternation. going from -

Gosling/VDM Neville Osman Pienaar

to

Gosling/VDM Neville Pienaar Osman

Or switch Pienaar right wing and do the same being Gosling has worked the left. But I'd still give VDM a shout.

Yobo needs to be back on the bench because Jags at RB aint working. Either Neville or give Jacobsen a go. You got him in Moyes, use him.

Cahill and Fellaini are similar type of players but did work fairly well in the midfield when they figured out who sat in and who went forward.

You've got to limit Saha's performances really, which is why Jo started tonight. But Jo isnt a target man which is what we're using him as so he's not performing. With Rodwell and Neville sitting too deep Jo has no real outlet to lay it off to apart from the wings. Cahill is more of a second striker now, he isnt just tucked in behind the striker like he does with the Yak before bursting forward.

There are options there. Moyes needs to maybe take a chance at shaking things up a bit rather than tweeks here and there.

Dont think Rodwell could cope being the DM on his own.

Fellaini and Rodwell would get walked all over by a half decent side, Rodwell would have to do all the running, tackling and tracking back and he hasn't got the experience to cope with that much responsibility. If he plays he needs Neville alongside him.

Baines cannot play left midfield, he proved that at the beggining of the season, he's shocking there and Nuno did a better job. Keep him left back where he can influence the game.

Yobo needs to take a seat on the bench, he brings panic to the back four and his hoofing is worse that Jagielka's, it's shocking.

Good shout that.

Would agree.

Gosling was more of a threat in the games hes played than Osman and Fellaini put together. I would like to see him back against Boro, and a fit Saha starting the match.
