Pop punk is properly on its arse in the modern era but somehow Machine Gun Kelly of all people has genuinely come up with a good pop punk album. In particular the first half of the album is really strong.
Are you a fan of Spanish Love Songs? Their newest album is incredible - and incredibly timely
Yep, massive fan, they were the last band I saw in Manchester with The Menzingers.
Its an unbelievable album though I actually still prefer Schmaltz.

I dont really think about Spanish Love Songs as a pop punk band. They're from the Wonder Years school of grown up pop punk mixed with emo and Menzingers sized choruses. Which is an absolutely delightful mix. Thats probably still my favourite album this year.
I wouldn't bracket them as one TBH - I think it undersells them (and The Wonder Years too) - Lyrically, 'Brave Faces Everyone' has hit me hardest this year, and that's in a year that contained new albums from Jason Isbell, Sufjan Stevens. Phoebe Bridgers etc
