I just started a new game on FM11/12 with everton minus the new updates and it's quite a difference in the squads -

I thought we look a lot better on paper than last year especially i the final 3rd.

My point is with this improved squad there is no reason not to be optimistic this year but it's plain to see certain areas need definite strengthening i.e CM/DM, RB other than that I have to say we look quite strong what do people reckon.

The interesting thing really is the interchangeability of positional demarcation.

How many defenders can play midfield, how many midfielders can play in defense, how many forwards can play in midfield.

Our squad is the footballing equivalent of a Swiss army knife.

very true when iwas doing the table i was wondering what position to put the likes of naismith mid or forward.

I think we all know how Moyes does things with his utility players and with a small squad it really is good forward thinking on Moyes part to create a team that can alternate positions without upsetting the balance.

Tactically as well mate it gives him greater scope during a game to shift roles, systems etc. Its the first time in a long time i actually remember our squad without a loan player in it. I like how its hugely increased in quality over the last 12 months.

If im honest i think thats our lot for the next few years bar a tweak here and there, there is a big loan that falls due next summer i believe. The last two windows will be as good as it gets for a while.

Yeah, although the TV revenue increase should go somewhat to help the bank, pity other teams will use it to buy more. Having said that, that squad has got a few years in it minus say neville and distin.

Our budget for coming seasons will come from player sales which i think we all accept but if we strengthen with the money like he has with rodwells then the bigger picture is a brighter future.

TBH mate, i would be amazed if a big hitter didnt leave next summer. Think of last summer and its the second half of that loan thats falling due, hopefully the board wont be as naive as last time in terms of trying to refinance or playing chicken with the bank.

Be interesting to see how many mins Coleman and Duffy get this year and will he bring them on that little bit more, with Distin and Nev coming to the end in mind. I hear Browning and Hammer are highly rated in the academy as well.

I wondered about the futures of Garbutt and Bidwell given the purchase of Oviedo.

To be honest mate I think Oviedo's come into the team as a long term left sided midfielder for when Pienaar finally hangs up his boots, he's only 22 but his strong point is going forward and i dont think he's much of a defender for the premier league anyway but looks like he could be a solid midfielder for us. I don't think Bidwell has got much future with us but I think Garbutt definately has, he's just a young Baines

A less positive way of looking at it is saying jack of all trades, master of none. You obviously need some utility-type players but are we getting to the point where we have maybe too many?

I had to google that word ffs. I haven't had to do that in beards.
