Hi folks, we guys play you away on the 1st of March so thought I'd come on here and ask a few questions really as I have never visited Liverpool/Merseyside.

1.Heard some horror stories about Liverpool as a city, how safe is it? Can you have a pint in peace? :D

2.Where is best to drink, heard there is a Wetherspoons near Lime Street. Or would I be better drinking near the ground. is there any good away pubs that's not too far a walk from the away end?

3.What is the difference between the Lower Bullens and the Lower Paddock? I do not want to be behind a pole if I can help it.

4.Getting to and from the ground, what is the best option? I am hoping I can make the 17:52 train from Lime Street back home but if I miss it I'll have to fork out full fare for a later train which I would not fancy doing. I have heard Kirkdale station is close to your ground but will there be queuing at this station or are you straight on a train back to Lime street?


Any advice/help/answers to my questions much appreciated folks. You will beat us IMO, we're going down :@
 

Liverpool is safer than East Ham/barking rd, so I wouldn't worry about that, its full of stag and hen parties at the weekend, you can drink anywhere you want as long as you dont act a tit.its 40 mins walk back to the station or 10 mins in a taxi, which are readily available if you leave 5 mins before the end...av a good one .
 
Don't have much experience with trains or the Bullens/Paddock, always been Lower Gwladys.

In regards to safety I think Liverpool is like most places. The majority will be sound, willing to have a chat and a laugh about footy. There are some idiots as with any team but if you aren't shouting your mouth off I think you'd be okay.

Think we'll beat you too, but I hope you still enjoy the trip!
 
I seen Billy Mitchell off the TV in thomas frost (witherspoons by the ground) once

he likes the hammers, we'd been playing them that day, I think he got home ok too

I live just outside London and as someone not from the city of Liverpool, I can tell you it's just like anywhere else on match day. As long as you respect the home fans and don't act a tit you're fine!

On the whole I think we all like West Ham fans anyway, I remember you lot singing "we want six" when we were five nil up and then cheering when our sixth went in! Strike up a conversation about how Suarez is a cheating git and kopites are gobshytes and you'll be sound :)
 
It's Liverpool I proper hate though. They bring the city down.

I was thinking about a taxi but I wouldn't leave till final whistle and don't know area to tell them to pick me up from somewhere where there is less traffic. To be honest if I did pre-book a taxi to pick me up at final whistle it would get stuck in traffic and take me ages?

Do you guys think the 17 52 is a no go? If i have to walk to kirkdale what time would I be looking at getting back to Lime Street?
 

Just make sure to come tooled up. You'll probably be fine but approx 85% of us will be carrying so better to be safe than sorry.

I do remember West Ham fans chanting 'Off! Off! Off!' after Mido made a bookable challenge which was mildly amusing. He was spectacularly bad.
 
Have a look at the soccerbus. Takes you to Sandhill station then from there get connecting train to either central (five minutes from Lime Street) or straight to LPY. (remember to pick up your ticket beforehand though)
 
Think I'll avoid the soccerbus mate. Heard it's mental and can take a long time with queuing etc. Heard kirkdale is better but not sure what time that would get me back to lime street

Haha! I remember that too! I've always felt WHam to have the funniest fans! Was very happy they came back up.

My first ever game was away at Upton Park too. Big Dunc equalised right in front of me!
