Since I've been watching football regularly since 2003, Henry is the best player I've seen. In a way I'm sorry to see him go, just because now I have to watch VanPersie now whom I despise.
However he was getting injured too much anyway. Plus his ego was starting to run out of control and often became visibly POed at his younger teammates which I think unsettled them. Its not a suprise that the young ones are playing better w/o him. His personal life is a little crazy which can affect your play too. I think there was some jealously toward Cesc, when Fabergas became the big man on the pitch last year. He's not one of Barca's 1st choise 11 so I think he's slipping alot.
I think it was no gamble at all. He's rebuilding a young side around Fabregas, and the absence of Henry forces them to bring more of the attacking players into the flow of a game - they were becoming a little one-dimensional when he was on the field. The time was right - not really any gamble at all.
To be honest it was arguably more of a gamble for Barca as they already have three of the finest attackers in the world and it's not clear quite how Henry will fit into their side and baring in mind that Ronaldinho and Eto'o had a clash of ego's last year over the praise each received for their performances adding another big name into the mix could cause things to blow up.
It's been suggested in the media that Ronaldinho isn't the most dedicated of trainers and if anyone is to leave the club it would be him. The talk has been that they have tried to offload Motta in the summer to break up the Brazilian influence in the dressing room and that Henry was a move to increase the English speaking side of things for Eto'o. Oh, and Messi has been at the club since he was a kid so they won't let him go. I suspect if Chelsea had made a huge big for Ronaldinho that he might have left.
