I often go to an Irish pub here in Melbourne and all the bar staff are Irish. O'Brians, Southbank.

No, but I think I have a stronger case for, than against on the grounds that it was in the Daily Mail.

Not defending that publication, btw, as I don't read it and I'm not qualified to judge.

They weren't fined for asking for someone with "knowledge of British culture, they were fined because they put this in the advert :

Being British definitely works in your favour - Bring an ex-pat or lived in the UK - also a plus.'

Thats saying someones nationality matters, not their knowledge. You don't have to be "British" to have a knowledge of Britain, but by writing that they're indirectly saying that someone non British, say German has less chance of getting the job even though they might have the same knowldge as a Brit.

Pretty stupid to cause a fuss over cause its obvious what was meant by the wording but change the word British to "white, black, Gay" or whatever and the same principle applies.

Call it pc gone mad or whatever but thats why they were fined.

Funny thing is I've read somewhere on official paperwork that over here Irish pubs are exempt from discrimination and can actually ask for Irish staff. Probably some compensation shizz from the whole 'no Irish' thing
