Often you have to pay a consultation fee before seeing previous work and design ideas, so personally I think he has gone over and above.

Can't go wrong with Wordpress really - depends on your tech ability. There's Wix too.

Squarespace is the slickest website builder for noobies imo, at least it was a few years back.
